F. McNutt, an old soldier, and a man 60 years of age suffered a terrible experience in the Blue mountains from Friday morning until Sunday eyening. Mr. McNutt went to the moun tains to get a load of wood. After getting on his load he start ed out Friday morning and after coming about tnree miles ms wagon struck a stump and was turned over. The horses broke away from tne wagon ana ran leaving the unfortunate man under the load of wood. After a great efTjrt he succeeded in getting ou from under the wood with a badly fractured leg and a ciushed foot Crawling to a clump of brush he cat some sticks and taking blanket he cut strings and bound his leg as good as possible. Tak ing his ax he made a pair of crutches and succeeded in going about three quarters of a mile down the road in search of help In almost a helpless condition and with a limited food supply, suffer iug with great pain Mr. McXutt was compelled to endure his tor tures until Sunday evening. The way in which he was found was a fortunate occurence. A camptender was coming down the mountain on horseback ana was driving a pack horse. The pack horse from some cause ran away from the camptender and taking to a Bideroad ran out to where Mr. ucNutt was before the camptender could turn the horse back. Had it not been for the pack horse running away Mr. McNutt would have missed the camptender. The camptender brought the news to town and air. McNutt was brought in Sunday evening. He is now slowly recovering after having passed through such a terrible experience. COURT HOUSE HAPPENINGS Aeeeeaor'e Office JBuay Place In Get ting Ready for Board of Equalization. SPECIAL. "My recommendation to tbe depart ment will be to cat the range privilege for sheep and cattle in this portion of the Blue Mountain reserve to fifty per cent ot what it has been this season, lor tue next year or two at least." said D. B. Sheller, superintendent of the re serve system to an American rep resentative last Sunday, upon his return from a ride of several weeks through the greatei portion of the vast area. 'The conditions at this time demon strate that those now in the range are gomg to run short of sufficient forage to sustain their flocks and herds as thev should be and keep them in condition for the markets or a long winter on hay. This statement I give publicity in ad vance of the cflicial report, which will reach owners much later, in order that they mey be reasonably certain of what to expect and govern them selves accordingly. In my trip I found but a few minor erelictions on the part of the sheep or tockmen in crowding upon prohibited watersheds. This, no doubt, is larzelv ue to the fact that our rantrers have been alert and have not permitted thn erders to get within circumscribed mits. WILL SHOW AT PENDLETON FAIR. W.
