Cashier Ma'ters of record at tbe court house this week were more than usual. Thomas H. Hewlett, of Monument, filled his fioal papers, being allowed full citizenship. C. . Johnson was granted a license for a ferry at Irrigon. Marriage licenses wpre granted to E. B. Morgan and Marie Scott, J. E. Gentry and Rowena G. White. United States patents were filed by J tines F. Spaulding, N. P. Ry Co., Wm. C. Carpenter, Corda A. Saling. The books also show many other matters of records in tho way of mort gages, stock brands and matters of minor importance. The county court met in regular ?esnion, Wednesday of last week. The bivinuss of the session this term was short and everything was disposed of in two days. Hie board oi county road viewers made a favorable report on the road politioned for by J. H. Wvland et al, and the pitition was granted. The Morrow county emergency fund was replenished in the amount of $30, by a warrant on the general fund. The plot of Adams' first addition to the town of Hardmin was approved by the court. Application of J. F. Deos for rebate of taxes. Not allowed. Application of R. C. Wills for rebote of taxes on Heppner property. Mr. Wills' assessment was reduced in valua tion $100. Claim of Dan Rice for damage od account cf establishment of J. H. Wy- land road. Not allowed. The official bonds of J. P. Williams, justice of the peace and Lewis Kinney, constable, were approveJ bv the court. Smead hand ed the Gazette this week, figures for the month of August, that show great increase over the cor. responding month of last year. uunng tne month of August, lyOo, the money order business was S1G87.02. For th e same month this year, the records show a business of 82517.70. T AT L 1 , 1 j.u ins stamp saies mere was a greater increase than in the money order business. The August busi ness last year was $201.00. while this year, the business for the month of August was $396.00. Taking into consideration the fact that August is the dullest month in the year from a business standpoint, the showing is a good one. Willis, secretary of trie Third Eastern Oregon District Agricultural Society was in th city Thursday in the interest of the fair. After interviewing a number of the business men, a meeting was called by the Hepp ner Commercial Club at the coota- cil chamber and the matter wa discussed at some length by a good sized audience. Mr. Willis is an enthusiastic and hard worker and showed great in terest in the under takinz. Mr. Willis stated that the main object of this trip wan to get Morrow county people iutarested and to get a representative to go from this county and look after our in terests from now until after the fair, the fair management to ny the expenses.
