Sterns sent what is called a resignation o f his seat in the Senate to the Governor, and that John A . Drihblesby presented his cer tificate of election, aud the committee recommend that John A Dribbie.-by be allowed his seat in the Senate. The committee further report that in 1866 J«>seph N. Dolph and David Powell were elected Senators from 31ultnomah county; that one o f the above named Senators was entitled to hold office for the term o f four years from that elee. tion, but no allotment was made at the last session o f the Senate as required. The committee therefore recommend that neither of said two persons claim ing to be Senators from Multnomah Co., are entitled to vote until it shall he de cided by lot which one o f them is enti tled to hold over. Moved by Hendershott, to receive the report, which motion was agreed to. Moved by 3Ir Hendershott that the report o f the committee on credentials be adopted. Mr. Hendershott moved the previous question. 31 r. Cornelius, o f Washington, rose to a point o f order, to the effect that the previous question was not in order. The chair overruled the point, to which ruling Mr. Cornelius appealed to the house The decision of the chair was sustained. The previous question was withdrawn by 31r. Hendershott iu favor of Joseph N. Dolph and Lansing Stout, o f Mult nomah, so as to allow these gentlemen to make arguments for and against the adoption of the report o f the committee on credentials. Mr. Cornelius moved to amend the report o f the committee by striking out the words “ 31ultnomah county ” and “ Lansing Stout.” Motion lost.
