ßpilyay Ty moo, Warm Springs, Oregon More Letters to the Editor . God called “Looey.” I know that everyone here will agree with me, that the Dry Creek Boys is the best there could ever be. It’s happy thoughts that will get us through like all the fun we shared with you. And now my poem will come to an end, until the day we meet again. I pray that you are now at peace. G oodbye Jam ie- with Love from Me. June 23,2007 God called our dad Cy to join him in heaven. He said, I ’ve come for you . to take you away, you’ll join your loved ones, so you’ll be i - going to stay. • Ninety years you’ve toiled earth. I t ’s time for your re ward which is small compared to your worth. , Three sons, three daugters, plus grandchildren are being left ■, behind. But you’ll join B u ff and Lil’ Buff, so I ’m sure they don’t y mind. You’ve done so much in the tim e you were placed here, Councilman, umpire, engineer. But dad, husband and grandpa is what you held most dear. / Graduating from Chemaawa 1T934, yon stressed education in order to survive. Traveling by horseback to places near and far, to work for a living for the family and food t;o be stored. Ydu.’ve done more in your lifetime than most men your age, all o f these will be added to an other page. You ..were s<* tough 4s a ^oVy iybb smiled rarely buY?T brought us joy. | Even though we had our little fights, over silly things like shoes, cldthes and wiring lights, I never wanted to be a pesi, I needed your skills, cause you’re the best. I ’m glad those times were only a few. It was easy for me ’to argue with you. But that’s just me, as you are you, And in the end you always came through. This is Warm Springs where you are; from. We all are here with Dad and Mom. O tir hearts are broken, as you know, we really can’t bear ,to let you go. Sometimes you were so crazy and loony, especially with Tilla a n d iK a th la w ho called you I shouldti’tvand 1 wouldn’t be writing this letter i f our Tribal Council would show a little back bone by passing a resolution to discontinue these adoption ref- erendums. There are no services or funds fo r tribal members right n o w andi the foreseeable future. Tribal^members are be ing laid o ff permanently, posi-. tions terminated by being com bined with another position, budgets slashed to' and past the bone and so where is Tribal Council going to bet funds to cover th is.n ex t onslaught o f adoptees? Since the first adoption ref*, erendum was forced on .us by a Tribal Council member, there have been changes to these adoption referendum», tq add more and more adoptee» to each one. Some don’t .even appreci a t e being adopted into our tribes. We ad opt them , they turn .around, have- kids from a non- tribal m em ber and then put rhgu: kids -ort^sie ne*r adopndn TfjHfeflliHuxfe e^rebfing-us tribal members to adopt them. As tribal members, it is not our job to tell these children, No you cannot be a part o f our tribes. By Tribal Council stand ing up for the tribal members and passing a resolution to never have these adoption referen- dums any more. JThat’s why We- voted them in, to make these tough decisions for us, not to . pass " the ■ ■ buck. Put the responsibility where it belongs, on the enrolled parent. It is his or her job tP tell their children why they were not au- i tomatically enrolled. I feel very strongly about this matter, even though I am an enrolled parent who had kids with a non-tribal member. I was Page 5 September 13, 2 0 0 7 Prospective Bough Cutters 2007 If you are interested in participating in the 2007 bough program, you must submity your request to the Tribal Tmiber Commit- lucky to have enough blood to have my two boys, enrolled, but I know my grandchildren won’t and I will tell them why they are not enrolled tribal members o f the C onfederated Tribes o f Warm Springs, because o f the choice I made to have children with a non-tribal member. So i f the Tribal Council has enough backbone to 3-day re treat around on the O regon Coast, when we have no funds for Managed Care program for our Elders, quit proving us right that we wasted our votes, And give us oqr luxury box back so we can g o watch pur Blazers, the biggest luxury box with free food and drinks this time.
