P3ge 6 Spilygy Tyrooo, W^rm Springs, Oregon Almost time for Little League registration By Austin Greene Recreation Department The Warm Springs Recre ation Program, an associate of Jefferson County Little League, w ill have registratio n for all youth ages 5 through 14 years of age based on the new dead line o f May 1 o f any respec tive year (League Age). The previous deadline was August 1 in determining your child’s age division. But nation ally, the deadline had since been modified. The local league will have t- ball co-ed divisions ages 5 to 8 years. Minor League boys and girls is for youth ages 8 to 10. Major League boys and girls division consists of youth ages 11 and 12. And the Junior Level for boys and girls is for youth ages 13 and 14. Early registration for your child’s participation in this year’s program is important to deter mine the interest in the program. It helps determine how many participants that we place at each level, and not to overload any single division or team due to last minute sign-ups. The Recreation Department will have sign-up days on: Monday, Jan. 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Community Center Social Hall. Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Warm Springs M arket. Tuesday, Jan. 31 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the tribal adminis tration building lobby. Wednesday, Feb. 1 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Warm Springs M arket. Parents are asked to have at registration sites a current birth certificate, physical street ad dress, and medical release (shots) update on their child. The Recreation Department has placed many current play ers birth certificates in a locked file at the office, but encourages many new or those that have not subm itted one, to do so please. It makes the paperwork flow procedure consistent with J a n u a ry 19 , 2 0 0 6 Hoops tourney Jan. 27-29 The North End Express Basketball Organization will host the annual All-Indian Men’s 6 Foot and Under Plus One basketball tournament Jan . 27-29 at the W arm Springs Community Center gymnasium. This will be a 10-team true double elimination tourna ment. Entry fee is set at $250 per team, and the deadline for interested teams will be this the needs o f the Je ffe rso n County Chapter, especially for post season activities, or discrep ancies during league play. All volunteer coaches from the past season all have priority on returning to their post for this season, based on their in tent. Vacant coaching spots are only open when one transfers, or shows no interest in return ing. A volunteer coaches applica tion (legal background check) will be handed out at the local coaches meeting scheduled for Monday, Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. in the Education Room at the Com m unity Center. All returning coaches, and interested coaches are asked to attend this meet ing. Uniforms are a huge concern for this year’s program, as the Recreation Department intends to keep registration costs at a minimum. Parents can assist by returning all uniform pants and jerseys that they may have from the past season. It has an im pact on registration to keep it at a minimum per participant or household, and not have the R ecreation D epartm ent pur chase new uniforms. I f you have not returned your child’s uniform, please do so for inventory purposes and keep ing our cost per player minimal. Registration costs are cur rently: t-ball, $5 per player; $10 per player at other levels. $5 each additional player within the same household, and a family maxi mum not to exceed $20. This is up until deadline of March 17, after which cost will increase at $5 per participant, with the family registration rate not to exceed $30 per household after the deadline. So please ‘register early. This helps determ ine the size o f teams, uniform and equipment needs throughout this program. Scholarships are made available to register in this program, as no child will be turned away from participating. For more information con tact Austin Greene at the Rec reation Office, 553-2343.
