Avoid replacing your windshield Assistance for veterans Do you have any questions about your veterans benefits? Tom Weiss, Jefferson County veterans service officer, will be helping veterans and their sur vivors at the Warms Springs Senior Center, ,2331 High Lookee, starting this month on the second Thursday of each month, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Veterans have earned certain benefits as a result of their ser vice to state and nation. Survi vors and dependents of veter ans may also have benefits available; however, these ben efits are there for you only if you apply for them. Because the laws covering veterans’ benefits are complex, you are urged to get help in ap plying for them. The necessity for personnel assistance to vet erans in filing and pursuing claims results from the legal principle that NO veterans’ ben efits are awarded automatically. The county veterans service officer provides free benefits counseling and claims service to veterans, survivors, and depen dents. Weiss can help you obtain all your veterans entitlements. When it comes to federal benefits, the VA (U.S. Depart ment of Veterans Affairs) can not prosecute claims against it self. Therefore, the county vet erans service officer will use veterans’ service organizations or the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs to represent your claim for you before the VA. There is no fee for this ser vice, and it is a good way to be certain you receive all the ben efits you earned. Your first step is to visit or call Weiss. Appointments are ap preciated but not necessary, 553-3313. L 4-H Bears basketball club The 4-H Bears girls bas ketball club plays from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday nights.
