Collins and William Conover, residents of Spo kane, had a narrow escape from death Saturday on the mountain side above Burke. Miner Killed in Slide,. Grants Pans, Or. The funeral will bo held this afternoon of W. J. Mc Dow, who was caught In a slide while mining Friday near Swede Basin. He died near Love station on the way to Grants Pass. He was aged 83 and leaves a wife and several children. Ronttlo Honors City Founder. 8oattle. The funeral of Mrs. A. A. Denny, one of the pioneers of the Puget sound country, took place yes tordny afternoon, and hundreds Jour neyed to the cemetery to do honor to this grand old woman, who helped her husband In establishing the city of Seattle. Mrs. Denny came to this section 60 years ago. GrnntH Pass Voted "Wet." Grants Pass, Or. Tho election held Saturday under home rule was closely contested and a largn vote was cast on the question: "Shall the city council be authorized to license saloons?" There was 49 majority for a "wet" town. Probnbly action will be brought to test the constitutionality of tho home rule bill, as Josephine county voted dry at the last general election.
