JIr. Reerter left this morning for Heppner. where he goes to look after tho Interests of the. members of the order who have suffered by the flood. After he has become acquainted with Uie conditions there he will recom mend some action to the various camps throughout tho state providing reller for those destitute or In need of assistance. PUBLIC SCHOOL AFFAIRS. Question of Expansion of Buildings Must Be Disposed of. The board of directors of tho public schools will meet this evening for tho purpose of Installing Dr. C. J. Smith as a member of the board, he having been re-elected nt the district election not long ago. On next Friday evening tho board will hold Its regular business meet ing and at this time the matter of the addition to the school building will come up for discussion and be dispos ed of. The business of the school year will bo gone over and the ac counts straightened and everything put In shape for next year. Gone to a Funeral. Sir. and Mrs. M. M. Atchison, of Shedd, who have been visiting at the homo of J. S. Crawford of this city, have gone to Pullman to attend the funeral of tho two children of Mrs. "NV. L. Dorson, who Is a sister of Mrs. Atchison. The children were victims of an attack of pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. Atchison will return hero for the completion of their visit In a short time. The worl. on the Fergtison-Mnloney building Is well under wny, and It Is expected that tne building will he readv for occupancy by the first of the month. It will be a modem structure of two stories and will be a substan tial addition to the residences of that town. J, Irwin, of Salem, spent lnsl evening In tho city tho guest of relatives and friends here. .Mrs. Ir win has been at Weston, where she went to attend a reunion of the Spence family and to spend her vaca tion. There were three generations present nt the reunion and the fam ily numbered over 10 when all wore gathered together. Airs. Irwin has charge of the receiving ward at the asylum, and Is one of the most capar hie employes of that big Institution, where she stands high In the esteem of the physicians and 01 the slate board. Many People Interested In Bringing Next Encampment to Pendleton. The delegation of tho local post of the Grand Army will endenvor to so curo tho next state encampment of the Grand Army for this city, and have enlisted the aid of tho various organizations of the city and the city government In their behalf. Last ovenlng a committee of tho post was present to appear bctoio tho meeting of the council, but that body did not meet and this morning in answor to a request from them T. G. Operation for Appendicitis. Airs. W. E. Garrotson has returned from Tho Dalles, whore she under went an operation for appendicitis at the hospital. While Airs. Garrotson has recovered from the operation, she is yet quite weak and it will bo somo tlmo before she is as strong as before her sickness. Police Court Proceedings. Tom Farron, John Thomas, Wil liam Kramer, Arthur Williams and Jack Brown were up before Judge FItz Gerald this morning for drunk enness, and were fined $5 apiece, with ti.e exception of Arthur Williams, who was given two dnys in Jail. Will Move to Pendleton. Bruce Haines, with his wife and son and father, A. S. Haines, is registered at tho Hotel St. Georgo. The party are from Heppner, and aro in the city looking for a place of residence today. A. S. Haines Is the father ot AI. B. Haines, who lost his wife and child In the flood.
