Astoria lost another of her oldest cltlsens yesterday In the death of An drew John Welch, who passed away at the home of hi nephew, John Welch, at J o'clock yestirday morning. Mr. Welch was nearly 82 year of age and was born In Missouri In lSl'J? Ill death was attributed to old age. In the early day of the excitement following the discovery of gold In California, he came there from his home In Missouri and In 1SS3 was married to a Mis Mary J 11 ha Hcnrlprsun at Blcela. Cal. At her death, which occurred a year and a half later, he came to Clatsop county, where he ha alnce resided. He wa a veteran of the Mexican war and en listed as a volunteer from this state In 1864. during the civil war. but was detailed to serve at Colvllle on the In dian reservation, holding the Indians who were Inclined to get restless, while the army wa drawn away. During the greater portion of the last forty year Mr. Welch has resided at Clatsop. The funeral will be held thl morning at 10 o'clock. Service will be conducted by Rev. W. 8.
