He made the trip from there to Coos Bay in Just twenty-four days, including stop overs of four days en route. He crossed over to Hull, Eng., and took ship there for Quebec. He says he had a fine trip but didn't find any place that he liked as well as Coos Bay. Seek Missing Man. Mrs. Chas. W. Skeels of Pullman, Wash., has written to Coos Bay asking that a search be made here for her hus band who mysteriously disappeared from 4,307 Mill street, Spokane, Wash., July C, Skeels Is about twenty-five years old, five feet seven inches tall and weighs 110 pounds. Greene and Joe Lapp while scorching In Coqullle Sunday hit a child, were arrested and fined $25 apiece for speeding. The latter two admit they were in Coqullle but declare that Mr. Fer guson Is suffering from a brain storm. They Indignantly deny the report that the auto Is being held as a guarantee that they will pay the fine, claiming that the machine is merely laid up on account of a break. Whisker Contest. Jas. Ferrey Jr., and Ralph Matson are contes tants in a whisker growing contest that is bringing some great results. Ralph has a fine goatee and Jim has a pair of side burns that are wln- I ners. They were nurtured during the recent hunting Irlps from which .they returned yesterday, Jim being .down In Curry county with Hank Wells and Jas. Cowart while Ralph was up the North Fork of Coos Riv er with Ben Chandler, Mr. Boone and Billy Cox. Ralph's party got seven deer and Jim six. However, the venison doesn't compare with the auburn hirsute adornments that they are presenting today. GOES TO SEATTLE. Veteran Stage Driver at the Exposi tion. ROSEBURG, Ore., Aug. 12. Bob' Roberts, the veteran stage driver, left for Seattle, where he has been engaged by the fair management to drive si-In-hand rigs. The fair board wanted the oldest stage driver obtainable, and Mr. Roberts claims to answer that requirement better than any other man. Now at the age of 06 years, he has driven stages continuously since he was 25. DIES AT COQUILLE. Wm. Lafferty, Aged 70, Succumbs to Complications. COQUILLE, Ore., Aug. 12. Wm. Lafferty, aged 76, died at his home here late Tuesday of a complication of diseases due to his advanced years. He had resided here a num ber of years. PIONEER IS DEAD. ROSEBURG, Ore., Aug. 12. Aft er an illness extending over a period of many months, John S. Bone brake, one of the earliest pioneers of California and Oregon and a resi dent of Douglas county for 30 years, died at his home In this city, Sun day morning. CARD OF THANKS. NORTH COOS RIVER WOMAN DIES HERE Mrs. J. C. Beattio Succumbs to Tuberculosis of the Bowels at Mni-shflcld General Hospital. Mrs. J. C. Beattie, wife of a well known North Coos River man, died last evening at the Marshfield Gen eral hospital of tuberculosis of the bowels. She had been 111 for quite' a while. She was 26 years old and three years ago was married In the State of Washington to Mr. Beattie, her maiden name having been Marle Berge. Besides her husband, a fourteen months old son survlces.
