McMurray, who for the past 10 months has been leador of the choir of the Newman Methodist church, this city, and who has been the "Hon" of the musical set of Grants Pass since his arrival here last fall, and who represented himself as being a confirmed ba chelor, has suddenly left town, It having developed that one or more of 'his several wives Is hot on his trail. From the nature of ' certain correspondence received here, It ap pears that the professor had as many as six wives, all of whom aro living, and from none of whom he was divorced. Mnn of Many Aliasas. Though he went under the name of James S. MacMurray hero he was known to havo had other names In places where he has been, among them being James Rugby. His last wife was a young lady at Pasadena, Cal., whom he met while In that city teaching music. The professor had left his other wives in the east, among them being one In Vermont. He represented himself as being a single man, however, and married tjie young lady. Afterwards, It was learned that he had been married before. He left Pasadena, but the parents and relatives of the girl gave cnase, and followed the musician complete ly around the world, capturing him Anally at Scranton, Pa. He was brought to Los Angeles and tried for bigamy, was convicted and sentenc ed to serve three 'years at San Quen tin. After he had served his sen tence, he remained a while in San Francisco, then came to Grants Pass. 'He has a splendid baritone voice, Is an accomplished musician and a thorough director. He was taken up at once by the Methodist minister and members of the Meth odist church here, as he claimed to bo a singing evangelist, and gave proof of being a member of the church. Dupes the Church People. The Methodists were so well pleased with him that special con cessions were made him to remain here, among other things being al lowed (he use of the church annex and piano to train his pupils. He was even allowed to occupy the pul pit; in truth, he had everything his own way in the Methodist congrega tion. Not long since a cantata. "Joseph," was given in this city under his direction, advertised to, be for the benefit of the Indies auxi liary to the commercial club, but It was discovered later that a very Keavy percentage of the proceeds were "reserved" by tho professor for his services. MacMurray, which is the profes sor's real name, was born In Scot land and is about 39 years old. Ho Is not a naturalized citizen, though he has spent the greater part of his time for the past 20 years In -this country. Ho is well educated, espe cially In music, having graduated from tho best schools of Scotland and studied In other European- coun tries. It wns his fine voice and his gen tcol manners thnt made him a' favor ite In society and in tho cl(urch. Ho plnyed the part of the bachelor well, and had It not boon for his dis covery horo by some of his numer ous wives, he would no doubt havo remained in tho exalted position to which ho had been boosted. Judge Galloway has handed down a deci sion in the circuit court restraining the state treasurer from paying out tho sum of $100,000, or any part thereof, as appropriated by the last legislature for the construction of the Crater Lake ro'ad. This injunc tion suit was filed by L. H. McMahan on constitutional grounds. Judge Galloway holds that the act appro priating this money Is special legis lation as the mohey, if applied to the purpose named, would affect only two counties Jackson and Klamath and Is therefore purely local In character and limited to a special section of the state and for a special purpose. It is therefore held to be at variance with the pro visions of the state constitution and the injunction Is granted as asked for In the complaint. Judge Galloway takes the ground that the tendency of the courts In this and other states where a simi lar Inhibition against special legis lation exists in the constitution is to place such construction on this pro vision as would make this appro priation for building a wagon road from Medford to Crater Lake un constitutional, and therefore void. Attorneys for the state announce that they will carry the case to the supreme court and have already served notice to that effect. AVE CARRY A COMPLETE LINE OF THE FAMOUS SWASTIKA DANCE 1 1. O. The em inent skin specialist, Dr. D. D. Den nis, first discovered the eczema germ and his discovery was quickly taken i up In both Germany and France. To kill the eczema germ and at the same time heal the skin, Dr. Dennis -pompounded oil of wlnter- green,,,.thymol, glycerine, etc. The remedy Is a liquor, not a mere salve, hence it sinks right Into the pores of the skin. Washing with .this oil of wlntcrgreen compound seems to take the Itch away at ,once; soon the scales drop away and tho disease dis appears. The Red Cross Drug Store, John Preuss proprietor.
