SALEM, Ohio, June 7. Mrs. Eli zabeth Sharp, a prominent society woman and wife of G. V. Sharp, a politician and manufacturer last night shot and' killed her twelve-year-old son, Harold, and then her self. The report from Coqullle appear ing In The Times Saturday, about an assault on John Dashney, foreman of the Smith-Powers Logging Com pany's camp on Cunningham Creek, was Incorrect. A. H. Powers says that Mr. Dashney was not In any trouble of any kind and he is at a loss to understand how the report got started unless some1 one deliber ately misrepresented or confused the fact that a couple of ''lumber jacks" belonging to Mr. Dashney's camp with the latter's name. The report was quite general In Coqullle, a rancher from near the camp having given It the first circulation there1. Mr. Dashney was not involved lh any trouble and no attempl wds made to hold film up. However, this Is merely a surmise of persons who Investigated I he matter. ' Wits Sixteen Years Old. Tho dead girl was sixteen years old. She was born In Oklahoma but had resided with her parents in this county for a number of years. Her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. McDanlel formerly ran a board ing house here and later moved to Bandon. They leturned from Dan don to the Bay a few months ago, Mr. McDanlel going to ftoseburg on a job and Mrs. McDanlel and her daughter remaining here. Mrs. H. J. Linden of South Marshfleld, Is a sister of the dead girl. Mr. McDanlel, the father, Is In Roseburg and was notified by long distance phone this morning. He ex pected to start at once for here. MYRTLE POINT, Ore., June 7. A half a century ago, last Saturday tho 29th day of May, the first colony of settlors landPd in the Coqullle valley and made preparations to make this their home. There were forty-five members in the colony and the majority of them have made this beautiful valley their home during all the years that followed. The co lony came from Baltimore, Mary land, and was headed by Dr. Her mann, who homesteaded on the South Fork where T. M. Hermann now resides. It is now planned to celebrate this 'half century anniver sary this fall wjth an old settlers pic nic at the Hermann homestead, with a program to extend over several days. The plans for the celebration are yet incomplete, but it is 'proposed to make it an occasion that will long be remembered. Many of the mem bers of the colony have passed away, but a -number survive and they and their descendents are enjoying the opportunities that were discerned by the wise oneswho first chose this as an ideal home place. Among those of the original colony who survive are James Burke, Alex Stauff, Aug ust Schroeder, Fred Schroeder, T. M. Hermann, BInger Hermann and Mrs. E. Bender.
