Stott, a citizen and attor ney of Hillsboro, died from a relap-io of typhoid fever at the homo of his father in tliis county on Tuesday last at 10 o'clock a. :.r. More than a month ao he was attacked at this place with the typhoid fever and was bedfast a fortnight or more at the' house of Sheriff To.ier where he was attentively nursed and hopefully brought out -of a nearly fatal sickness by Dr. Yite. 13utas soon as he could walk lie got on the cars, Saturday the the 10th inst., and started to his father's place on "NVapato Lake; but by an unfortunate oversight in the conductor he was not put oft at Gas ton but was taken on to St. Joe,vhei a carriage was procured by the con du:torand he was taken to his Un cle's Mr. Dennv. Stott of this county. .He was 27 vears; 8 months and 25 lavs old. lie graduated irom laciltc T iaversity i;i the class of 'tj'.)-'7t, aud is the first graduate of that ill s', itutioa that h n di.-d. After grad uating he read law iu Fortland in the law oflice of Dolph & Mitch ell, and was admitted to 'practice in 1871. He then went to JhigeneC'ity v.herti he entered upon the practice of his profession and remained there until last vearwhen he established himself at Hillsboro and had fair prospects of a useful ami .successful career. But death came and cut him oft' in the very budding of his manhood when hope and promise bloomed upon him. Of a social and hearty, generous nature, he was a favorite am. ng the young people of his acquaintance, and was re spected for his honor and integrity of character wherever known. These qualities of head aud heart he in herited from parents of strong char acter and noble virtues. He leaves behind many friends. He was be trothed toxvoung lady in. this neighborhoodyof highly respectable family. He united with the Congre gational church at Forest Grove when a student of the Institution there, but subsequently had broken oil relations with the rame. A few hours before his death he said that he placed his trust in God. On "Wednesday his funeral tool: place Dr. Marsh maelo some appropriate j remarks on the occasion to a lare j assemblage of ieo)lo from every part of the county, at the house of his father where his body lay. I lis remains were then removed to the Hill Coun try followed by thirtv car riage.s and many horsemen, where it was consigned to its last resting place with tlVb burial rites of the Masonic Order. Ho was buried near his sister, Mrs. Rebecca Ball, wife of C. A. Ball, who, died only a year previous, and the spreading branches of the same cat extend their shade and whisper with the brec7.es over them both. President Marsh of Pacific University will preach the funeral sermon at the Coii''ie?ational chiirch at Purest j Grote next Sunday at eleven o'clock a. m. Thus swallowed "up in the oblivion of the grave, Frank has passed from our view; but as we hope, has stepped upon a broader and higlier plane of being where love has its fruition and life blooms im mcrtal. - RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT. Fourst Guove, Oct. 21, 1874. At the regular communication of Holbrook Lodge, No. 30, A.- F. & A. 31., Oct. 21, 1S74, the following resolutions were reported aud unan imously adopted : Jit'tolvol, That the members of this Lodrje hive heard with deep regret the death of our esteemed brother, Frank L. Stott, and feel that in his death we have lost a valued friend and the community an honorable citizen. (''Wv. That we offer our heart felt sympathy to the family of the deceased. Jtcxolvcil. Todd ) Dangerous Diudc.es. -Several bridg es on the road between Forest Grove and A. Hill's place are dangerous for teams or horsemen oue of them almost impassable. The sills of the high bridge beyond the old 3Ioore place are badly decayed and the pub lic ought to be warned of its dan gerous condition. New stringers are on the ground for repairing this bridge and the work should be done immediately. The "Long Bridge" near Hillsboro needs re-covering,and iias been advertised as dangerous for a year. This bridge will have to be re-covered soon anyhow. Fetching it is a loss of time and money. W. for a commu nication concerning the eclipse last week, v'nfortiniattlv for tuir read ers we did not publish last week, owing to our removal, and the com munication was lost to them. It gave a tabulated statement of the differ ent phases of the eclipse and their time at Hillsboro. - - Birn itNEo. J. W. Itobinson the Forest ('rove photographic artist has returned and commenced busi ness at that place at his old stand. He will stay only six weeks aud those desiring good pictures this fall would do well to call on him at once. Robinson will often take a better picture than Duchtel himself. The Eclipse: A good many of the vounj folks in Hillsboro and Forest Grove sat up and watched the eclipse of the moon last Saturday but the old married folks generally went to bed; all of which would seem to in dicate that the young people of these time are fonder of sigh enco than the old. Wk have resurrected some old ty los in this burg. One gentleman whose hair is white enthusiastically got him a "stick, "put on hisspecs" and went to the "case" but had for gotten the "boxes." The clerk of the School District in Mr. Leiceey's neighborhood sold at auction, on AVednesdaj- last, a few head of cat tle belonging to Mr. Henry Davis, for tax due that district. Mr.Beach the purchaser butchered them on the spot. Te'is fall has been a remarkably dry one, so much so that most-of our farmert have not been able to plow to advantage. But the re turn of large Hocks of geese to the North indicate that our sunshine is about ended. The selection is a good one, and makes a corps of three teachers now employed. An unusual amouut of sickness is prevalent in Washington county this season, some of a verv serious nature.
