There was a good general demand and In spite of the heavy supply, prices held up fairly welL Most of the trading was In the cattle line. The best price paid during the day for steers was $3.25 and from that figure sales rsnged down to $4.50. Cows, went from .t.1.-, to $4..n. heifers at $3.50 and bulls at $3. Only two loads of hogs were disposed 01, one bringing $10.73 and the other a quae ter less. There were no sheep salea. The receipts ever Sunday were 125S cat tle. 1414 sheep and 1194 hogs. CHICAGO. Sept. 19. Covering of short sales, especially those of a southwestern operator, gave the wheat market Its direc tlon to a large extent. Some of the In centives were a decrease In primary re ceipts, the smallnese of tbe visible supply Increase, and a reduced crop In France. World shipments, too, showed a big falling off. Disappointing yields In Hungary were noted and It was said thata lowering of the French Import duty would not be un expected. What wavering there was in the market occurred chiefly in the first hour or near the end of the day. December fluctu ated between 997a09T4e and il.OOHtf 1.0OT4 and closed weak at $1.00 s 1.0074. a net loss of 7 0 Tic. Summer temperatures In the corn belt and free selling of both new and old corn to arrlee made a weak market for corn; De cember ranged from 52c to 37tc closing steady at 03 53 74c. a net loss. of ?c. The cash market was easy.. No. 2 yellow closed at 54 it 35c. Oats were down with other grains early. but rallied. September was relatively weaker than the distant months. Latest quotations showed pork 774c off to 274c up. lard un changed to 1274c higher, ana ribs rsnging from Saturday night's figures to a rise of 15 cents.
