Coun cilman Cox on Thursday produced the following day telegram which, he said, was sent to J. Crawford Compton, a concrete expert, from a friend in Fres no: "Fresno, Cal., April 7, 1915. "J. Crawford Compton, "Oregon City, Ore. "City Engineer Cronklte advise no bltullthlo pavement laid in Fresno. Stop states that Worswlck 1b operat ing under Warren patent which differs from bltultthlc In having asphaltlo concrete base top. If I can be of any further service advise. "A. Emery Wlshon." Compton Is connected with western Washington, concrete companies. He appeared before the council a week ago Wednesday with a representative of the Montague-O'Reilly company and proclaimed the merits of any pave ment with a concrete base such as El Oso, which is laid by the Montague O'Reilly company. Mr. Cox does not know the identity of the author of the telegram. Hackett, Cox, Van Auken, Andrews, and Metzner were the five councilman who turned down the recommendations of the committee of property owners and it is generally understood that the telegram from Fresno bad much to do with it. These men were op posed to bitulithlc and took a stand against Worswlck pavement when they bad evidence that Worswlck was nothing but bitulithlc in disguise. Neighborly testimonial In Dallas Observer: "That the Civic Improve ment club of Independence has accom plished something la evidenced by the appearance of the residence section of tbat town. Surely Dallas will have to move up a notch or two to keep pace xvlth its neighbor."
