OREGON CITY ENTERPRISE. FRIDAY, JULY 28, 1911 en - - , S Milwaukee and Northwestern Clackamas MILWAUKIE. The United Artisans held their regular meeting Tuesday evening In W.: O. W. Hall. Two candidates were Initiated. A large crowd came from Oregon City, and after regular routine business refreshments , were nerved, followed by a good program and danc ing. The Artisans will give a dance at Crystal Lake Park Saturday evening, July 29. The Woman's Work , Club will meet In Grange Hall Thursday and serve dinner to the men members who donated their work and are bulld Ign the sidewalk. The boys held their regular club meeting Monday evening. Bill Large will help them In their work during the summer months. The Alumni of the Mllwaukle High School will hold a social at Crystal Lake Park Friday evening. A good program will be given. Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Weaver are re ceiving the congratulations of their friends on the birth of a son, July 20. Mr. and Mrs. Seavy and Miss Rea gan were called to New York on ac count of sickness of Mrs. Seavy's and Miss Reagan's father. George and Alma Brownell, of Ore gon City, sold four acres of land ad joining Mllwaukle, to Charles D. Tay lor. John Scott sold one acre of land to parties who are building a three thousand dollar house on the same. The Evangelical church Is holding camp meeting at Jennings Lodge till August 5. Judge Kelso, Judge W. A. Hanson, Louie Campbell, Mayor Streib, Fred Lehman, and several other prominent people went to Portland to attend the 5-cent car fare hearing. Charles Council Is on the sick list. Mrs. Ella Maple, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Elkins and children were Portland visitors Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Griizell. Fred Lehman was given a birthday surprise party Thursday evening, July 20. A great many of his friends were present and a good time had by all. Edward Olds was an Oregon City visitor Wednesday. Miss June Spauldlng of Portland, was visiting Mrs. lharles Worthing ton, Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Brandt and daughter. Miss Gussle, were Portland visitors Wednesday. Mrs. J. O. Staats, of Oregon City, was vi3itlng friends here Wednesday. Mrs. Wm. Cederson went to Hllls boro Wednesday to visit her broth er and family, Mr. and Mrs. Omer Smith. E. C. Warren, L. E.Armstrong and Thomas Graham, Sr., were Milwaukie visitors Tuesday afternoon. The M. W. A. held its regular meet ing Tuesday evening In Green's Hall. Mrs Clarence Bushong, of Mllwat kie Heights, was an Oak Grove visi tor Wednesday. Geo. Sberk was home Saturday evening and Sunday from Sarah, Wash. t Wallace Williams returned home from Washougal, Wash., after several weeks' visit with his grandparents. The Boys' Brigade will have a big time on the river Friday evening. Re freshments will be served and a good time is looked forward to by the boys. Mr. Slid Mrs. Silas Scripture, of Oregon City, were callers at the Hugh Roberts home on Sunday. The SunHlilne Circle met at the home of Miss Eleen Warner on Thurs day of last week. Miss ERther and Ruth Heverllng, of Portland, and Miss Ethel Fisher, of Salem, visited with Bessie Roberts on Tuesday afternoon. P. P. Newsll la one of a committee to call on the Portland Railway. Light & Power Company commission for a reduction of fare from this place to Oregon City. Mr. and Mrs. Gould Heathman will leave on Wednesday for Altda, Minn., in Clear Water county, where they have purchased a ranch. Their many friends here regret their departure from among us and the best of wishes go with them to their new home. Mr. Heathman sold his interests in the grocery business to his brother, L. A Heathman, of La Conners, Wash., and whose family will arrive next Mlss Mabel Morse has returned from Seaside. Ore., where she was a week-end visitor at the Morse cottage. ?he was accompanied to the seashore by Mlas Ada Hulbert, of Gladstone. Swimming was the most welcome form of enjoyment on Monday when the mercury stood at 101 at this place. Mrs. A. C. MacFarlane. who Is a pro ficient swimmer, chaperoned the younger set to Cedar Island In the afternoon. Walter Beckner is building a cot tage for Mr. Turney at Covell. J. P. Strain retu.ned from the St Vincent hospital in Portland on Sat urday afternoon and is now able to use his crutches. The soclsl at the Painfow home Friday evening brought out a goodly number who eujoyed the Ice cream on the lawn which was made very pretty with different shaped lanterns which were hung between the firs. The long white tables were decorated with sweet peas and red carnations, and the cake and cream were served by a bevy of young folks. Mrs. Bond and Miss Esther Heathman favored with piano selections. Proceeds were $26 net. Mr. and Mrs. Sheppard have re turned from their trip to Eastern Ore gon. As it was so very warm there they returned sooner than they had expected. The camp meeting opened on tne evening of July 25tn. Presiding Elder Rev. E. D. Hornschuh gave a talk at 8 p. m. Special music was rendered by the quartette. Rev. Radebaugh of Milwaukie, will speak on Wednesday morning at 10:30 and In the afternoon Rev. F. C. Berg stresser will preach. In the evening of July 26th the pulpit will be occu pied by Rev. Straub, of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. A. Nichols and daughter, Metha, were charming vis itors at the home of Mr. , and Mrs. Mac Farlane on Sunday returning to their Portland home in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Cushing are attending the Seattle Potlach. W. A. Mack, of this place and Mr. Brown, of Oregon City, have gone to JENNINGS LODGE. Mr. William L. Finley, recently ap pointed State Game Warden, Is now preparing a book entitled, "The Trail of the Plume Hunter," which will be on the market tais fall. His former books on American birds and articles which Mr. Finley has written on Pa cific Coast birds have met with the universal favor of all. Mr. and Mrs. Finley are also soon to give to their publishers stories of our feathered friends which will be of birds that live around us, as their studies of na ture are taken from their home on the Willamette at this place. This work will be of particular interest to Oregon people. , , , Ed. Mathls met with a painful ac cident on Saturday last; while remov ing a well drilling machine from this place to Bolton his foot was severely bruised and fractured. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Seeley, large ranch holders of Lincoln, Nebr., were visitors at the J. E. Seeley home, near Meldrum last week. Miss Carrie Scripture and Mary Jane palntcw have Ireturned from, their outing of a month at Seaside. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Robinson have returned from the Seattle Potlach. Mr. and Mrs. Laing. of Irvington, are spending the week with their daughter, Mrs. Robinson. Commercial Club Chat Jacob GrossmMler, who lives on the Highland road, called at the Promo tion Office on Tuesday and said that he is arranging a collection of grains for the State Fair, which also will be taken to the County Fair at Canby. Mr. Grossmilller will exhibit horses at the Clackamas County Fair at Canby on September 27-30. F. D. Crafts, of Stockton, Cal., was a visitor at the Commercial Club headquarters. He is here to invest In land and was interested in the new townsite at Mulino and the Clacka mas Southern Railroad. "I am well pleased with this section," said Mr. Crafts, "and will locate here." J C. Edmunds, of Willamette, has brought to the office the largest logan and mammoth blackberries that have been received. These berries are of enormous size and show what may be grown in the productive soil of Clack amas county. M. F. Marston, of Portland, who has real estate Interests in this county, was a caller at the Promotion Office on Tuesday and was very much pleas ed with the enterprise of the Oregon City people In erecting a building which shows to such good advantage the resources of the county. Fred Gilbert and A. J. Oaks, of Spokane, who had heard of Oregon City through the efforts of the Oregon City Commercial Club, arrived in Ore gon City on Tuesday and will spend several days in looking over farms In the county with a view to buying a place near tbe city.
