HEADED FOR CENTRAL OREGON Senstor V. A. Clark is the Utet railroad magnnte to torn hi ryes toward Central Oregon. An article in last Sunday's Ore gonian states that practically all details for entrance of the road into Portland have Iwn concluded and meanwhile engineering parties have completed the location across to the eastern elope of the Cas cades. The scheme has been con cealed behind the Mount Hood Railway fe Tower Company that propose to operate an electric line to Mount Hood. The Oregonian says: It may surprise some engineers to learn that a route has been found bv which the line will make a gradual ascent of Mount Hood, to the southeast of that eminence and through to the upper Deschutes on a compeiisating grade of less than 1 per cent, but such is a fact and the construction crews already en gaged in the vicinity of Bull Run and between that point and Fair view will be rapidly advancing along the route so that consider able of the heavier part of the work will probably be completed during the winter months. Approaching the Deschutes at a point not far from the mouth of Warm Springs creek, it will follow up the Deschutes, cross the spur of Walker's range and thence pro ceed in a southerly course to the drainage of Sprague river and thence up that stream to the south east, through the Klamath Indian reservation and thence in a nearly direct line to Winnemucca. The main line will le built with regard to the shortest mileage and best route, while branches are pro jected to tap the irrigated districts of Crook, Klamath and Lake counties, but these are to follow the completion of the through line which is just at present the ob jective feature of the eniire enter prise. Engineers have been over the route repeatedly, parties having easily maintained the secret of their purpose and work because of the activity of the Harriman sys tern engineers in the same terri tory. That portion of the route south of the headwaters of the Des chutes may "undergo changes, as the locations hav not been defini tely made. One route would divert from that above outlined near the south boundary of Crook county and thence follow what would be an almost air line past Silver Lake, Summer Lake through the big timber around Paisley and the Chewaucan and thence by way of Lakeview. But it is asserted that some heavy grades would be en countered on that route that can be avoided by the other. It is claimed that the proposed extension of the Clark road from Salt Lake to Portland is simply a link in the Rock Island system. So far as Central Oregon is con cerned it does not give a rap what system it is that builds the road. What we want is an outlet for the rich products of this country. R0WLEE GETS JAIL SENTENCE Mr. Norma Kowloe, one of two women who claimed to be the mother of 4 year-old Dudley Tom lin, pleaded guilty In-fore Judge Fraier in the circuit court this morning to the charge of contri buting to the delinquency of ll year old Alice Francis, and was sentenced to 30 day in the county jail. Mr. Row lee had previously entered a plea of not guilty to the charge, but tjreS of her long stay in jail and changed her plea. Weeping and trembling, the woman was led into Judge Frtuer's courtroom this morning by Sheriff Stevens. lVputy District Attor ney Roliert Galloway announced the purpose of her coating to court, and Judge Frazer asked her if she wished to plead guilty. "I throw myself on your mercy," she sobbed. "You can do as you like with me. I do not plead guilty to putting that girl in that house, because I did not wit her there." On being informed that she must plead guilty or not guilty, directly, and Judge Frazer im posed the sentence. He said that in view of the fact that she had already been in jail over I0 days he would not make the sentence as severe as he otherwise would. Judge Frazer heard evidence in the juvenile court some time ago to determine whether the child in question was the son of Mrs. Toni- lin or of Mrs. Howlee. He took the matter under advisement, and said this morning that he will not render a decisiou until after Mrs. Row lee's jail term expires. Portland Journal.
