DEAD OX FLAT, April 23, The following people from the Flat at tended the play "Bringing up Father" at Weiser last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Lattig, Mr. and Mrs. B. Kart, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Joseph. Mrs. Burrell entertained st her home Thursday evening, Misses Pearl Wallac. Mabel Smith. Cre3centia Glatt, Rena Tomlin and Jean Bartshe, Mr. Lorin and Chas. Staples. - The evening was pleasantly spent in rook. Monday was closed for the schools of the Flat, for teachers and school board members and patrons were all invited to attend the local institute at Ontario. The following people were present, Mrs. Putman of the Pioneer School, Miss Wallace and Miss Smith of the Park, -Miss West of the Jefferson, Miss Glatt, the mus ic and art supervisor. Mrs Rorace Joseph, and Mrs. Paul Joseph of the Jefferson district. This was a very instructive and educational meeting, and we were sorry that there were not more board members and patrons present. The Farm Bureau and the scheols are working together to attain the same end that is to encourage the boys and girls clubs in the county. At -the last Oregon Slope Farm Bur eau meeting Miss Wilson explained her aim in this work and her idea of appointing one of the Bureau members to act as a local leader for the Boys Sheep Club was prompt ly taken up and carried out. Mr. Brown was appointed to act in this capasity. Mrs. Tom Kelsup is suffering from a nervious brWk down but is re covering nicely. L. L, Culbertson spent Monday in Ontario. Rev. Wallace of Payette delivered the lecture at the Sunday services at the Park school house. Mr. and Mrs. B. Korst and Mr. and Mrs. Lattig and Miss West were the Sunday Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ora Wilkins. are fairly bright for a good fruit Crop this year. Planting sugar beet seed is about completed for this year and all are hoping for a bountiful sugar beet crop. Rev. Henry Garrett of Star, Idaho delivered two Interesting sermons at Annex school house on Friday even ing the 23rd and Sunday afternoon at 3:30. Rev. Mr. Garrett is expect ing to return this coming fall to conduct revival services at the game place. , W. H. Perry is making some great inprovements on his new ranch near the Malheur District Improvement i Company pumping plant and is fig urine on a number ol other improve ments this summer. Robert Webber and J. J. Spicer are doing ' a lot of road grading from Annex to the pumping plant and others have promised to lend a help ing hand . later. A few farmers are making an ef fort to kill the gophers which in fest and do so much damage -to ranchers, while many other are ne glecting the very importan duty. We understand the proper officials will be here the first of May to inspect the work already done and also to place a man in charge to look after the work undone and poison the lit tle hob tailed rodents to be charged up to the respective land holders. Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas will leave Sunday for Portland where they will spend the summer. There is to he a picnic dinner at the Annex school house at the close of school on ' Friday of this week.
