M'l lowoll EXHIBITS ARE MUCH BEUER THAN USUAL That the agricultural and horti cultural exhibits at the fair thla year were much better than In former irOQfO. Is attested by II. II. Weather spoon who has acted as one of the Judges for Hie past three yeara. In an Interview with the Argua, Mr. Weatberspoon saya: "The i 'i fair has proven to be the greateat In the history of tho county as can well be testltled to by any and all who have been connected with the work. The educational features of a county fair must begin to bear 'good fruits' aa ia evidenced by the classy selection of all farm products this year, as compared with other ears. In this respect the ex hibits as a whole run at least 50 per cent higher in class, than in former yeara, which goes to show that fur- I iners and fruit growers have learned ; how to select good stuff, and know it when they see It. "In eery line of agriculture, ex cept potatoes and corn, the exhibits were far ahoc the general average of former years ami the fall down in potatoes is due to the diseased con dition of Hie entiru potato family In Malheur county, rather than to care lessness. The slight tall down in emu ia due evidently to carelessness in selection, rather than any other i.utse. since there is a larger acreage to -.elect from than ever before, and (he iiuulity Is good A little more cue in selection should have been practiced "From a horticultural point I do not believe a better exhibit has ever been placed on exhibition at a conn ty fair ill the state. Competition that It was a hard matter to decide who deserved the blue ribbon. "Aa a whole. If the entire building full of exhibits could have been pick ed up and let down In some of the eastern states Just as It was here, Malheur county would have to Import more real estate men in order to tuke care of the Incoming homoseukers who would follow. "It may be said that this county has the 'nerviest' bunch of boosters to be found lu Oregon. In view of the fact that former years has seen bad weather, and luck of attendance accordingly, it seems that every one now comes up with a smile, and this year has pullod off the blggeat stunt ever. "The arrangement and decorations in the agricultural buildiugs deservo great credit, due, I think, to a keen foresight of Supt lUuloy and his associates, who appear not to liawi left a single detail undone "From a county fair standpoint, as 1 see It, and I seo ull Kasteru Ore goti fairs, Malheur county pulls off the best of all" AUCTION SALE AT CALDWELL The first annual auction sule of the "l'ure llred Livestock llreedors' , Association," which was formed here during the fair, will be held at ('aid- ' well, October 27 and 28, nil.'. The, association expects to hold a great auction sale each year, of all kinds of pure bred live stock.
