A crowd ot young people including the Misses Olga and F.mma John son, Helen and Margery RoOOObori aud Mary MoOlotObUOi were over from their bOOV MM POJTtte ft terday to attend the fair. Thursday the third dav of the Malheur Countv Fair marked not only the largest attendance this year, but next to the largest number d' people ever at the fair here. The exception was one day's attendance two years ago. With the arrival r the Vale hand about ten o'clock the crowd stai ! d t. the fair grounds and when the program started .it 1:1") seats in the grandstand were at a premium. Many people spent the forenoon in the exhibit hall, the afternoon at the races and the evening at the Midway. Even a hitter record was made in getting the races off on time than the previous day and although the pro gram was a long one, very few left the grandstand until the finish of the wild mule race which was the conclusion of the da 's program. The trotting and pacing races were started with ver little jockeying. Many close Un label added interest to the events. In thfl motor cycle race, Willaiins was handicapped I half mile on account of Having a high power machine and only finished third. One of the interesting features yesterday was the Indian race and the war dance in the arena. The wild mule race which is always a strong favorite did not deviate from Its popularity yesterday. The old addage "stnhhorn as a mule" was demonstrated in many Instances. Although I he nudes sometimes get around llie track and start down i he home stretch in fairly good time, it takes no fid of coaxing to pursuade them to pasa Hi crowd and noise in the grandstand and pass under the wire.
