Monday night the school board form ally elected Roy Glass, of Philomath, superintendent of Stayton schools, and also decided to keep Clyde Hoffer as music and art instructor, for another year. One position in the high school is yet to be filled. Luther J. Chapin Is Elected a Director Luther J. Chapin was elected director of the agricultural department of the Commercial club for the coming year at a meeting held last evening. He will succeed Seymour .lonex. After the election of Mr. Chapin, the members of this department discussed general farming " propositions. There was some objection made to the Com mercial club giving each year $100 to wards maintaining the Marion county poultry show. It is probable that ar rangements can be made whereby the annual Marion county corn show and the annual poultry show can be held at the same time, in December, thus lessening the cost of the show and also securing a larger attendance. Gideon Stolz said the farmers in this part of the vallev were remiss when it comes to tiling. He thought with tiling and proper fertilizing, the' land could be made to produce crops that would surprise the average valley farmer. He, advocated county ownership of tiling machinery and that it should be used by the farmers by paying a small roy alty. Equal taxation of all land waa advocated bv L. tf. MeMahon. He thought 'if the stump land was taxed the same as improved land, that the owners would either improve or sell it and not let it remain uncultivated. iis director of the agricultural de partment, Mr. Chapin will select thn other four directors to co-operate witli nun- STATE GRANGE POSTPONED Astoria, Ore., May S.
