SALEM society i abreast of the fervor of preparing for wr, the matrons and D'aids of the ftmart set being in the frcnt ranks of theme who lire volunteering their services for the Ited Cros and other work. The lint of prominent women inter ested in the work eouM pile, up scores, ome of whom are deserting the Mwia! gayetics to devote their entire time to the work and to aid in forming aux iliaries of the Ked Cross. Bed Cross headquarters are being fitted up in the Elks building on Court street, and soon will become tho hive f activity. Most ot the social elubs have resolv ed into sewing bees, or auxiliaries, and from now on, matrons and maids will gather in their own particular set to work seriously sewing and folding ma terials which will be furnished by the Joeal chapter of the Red Cross. One of the latest Hed Cross auxil iaries to be added to the list, is the lllihee", which was formed Wednes day afternoon, ut a small informal tea for which Mrs. John J, Huberts was hostess. A number of matrons were asked to make up this auxiliary, which now in cludes only the members of two small bibs who are very congenial and gath er together often during each season. Later several other prominent ma trons probably will be asked to become members of the "lllihee," which aa jet is scarcely organized. The officers elected to take, charge of this subsidiary are, Mrs- Asahel Hush, chairman; Mrs. Thomas C Smith Jr., secretary, and Mrs. William 11. Bnrghardt, Jr., treasurer. The, residence was decked with fra grant spring flowers, yellow daffodils mid wild pink being used artistically about tho card rooms. Four tables wero arranged for the games, the score honoiis falling to Mrs. Olivor Locke. Huge clusters of lavender hydran geas adorned the rooms and the hostess was assisted by Mrs- Milton L. London mid daughters, Miss Zeuletto London and Miss Wini fred London, who have been the bouse guests of Mrs. George P. Rodgers for a few days, will leave Sunday for Port land en route to their home in Vancou ver, B. C. Miss Margaret Rodgers, who is home from college for the week end, will also return Sunday to Eugene. Of paramount importance in the cal endar for next week is the tea to be given Thursday afternoon by the Salem Woman's club at the residence of Mrs. Ruben P. Boise. It will be a silver tea, for benefits nowadays are the pass word in Salem, as they are in every other city. The prettily appointed table was ar tistic with an arrangement of crimson carnations and greens. A huge flat bowl of the blossoms formed the cen terpiece, while smaller bowls adorned the ends of the table. After dinner the party joined the merry makers at the armory for the Cherrian dance. "Movie parties," have become very popular among society folk this season and are proving a boon to the hostess who enjoys gathering together n small group of friends on the spur of the moment. There are loads of these delightful little affairs to fill in the afternoons of each week, and they are invariably rounded out with tea at the residence of the hostess, or some refreshment place. Werner of Dallas will be a simple -vent of today, was honoree for an informal evening given by a group of her friends Monday at the studio of Miss Minnetta Magers. .Miss Pratt has been soprano soloist at the First Baptist church for the past two years, and the affair was planned by the quartet, composed of Miss Magers, Mrs. Theodore Roth, Miss Ermine Bimhuell, John Brocr and W. T. Jenks The evening was devoted to progressive games and music.
