She lays a billion eggs or so for the human race each ycar, and, under world war conditions, the priee of, eggs per dozen to consumers had approached a dollar in some parts of the United States, and has reached the prohibi tive price of two dollars or more ia the belligerent countries Therefore when the high eost of liv ing looms large in the public eye, un usual importance is attached lo tho announcement of the best known bak ing powder company in the world that it -has evolved a ready and practical way for the housewife to save, in tha. aggregate many millions of dollars in household expenses through the use of more Royal Baking Powder and less eggS. . Months of experimenting have elic ited a large number of recipes for the making of home baked products with fewer eggs, and these recipes are being distributed gratis. It is claimed that they prove conclusively that the bak ing powder saves eggs in gome cakes about half the cost of the eake is sav ed. In recipes calling for the use of eggs, the number can be reduced and excellent results healthful, appetizing cakes, muffins, corn bread, etc ob tained by using a small additional quantity, about a teaspoon, of Royal baking jxiwder in place of each egg omitted. The acme, r top notch achievement, in tins connection is an eggless, milk less, butterlcss cake that is pronounc ed bv all who have tasted it to be de licious and wholesome. Its appetizing quality, it is claime"!, will be surpris ing to the housewife who tries it ac cording to the recipe given. The idea of using more Royal bak ing powder and less eggs in baking is not entirely new, but the elaborate en larging aud perfecting of the idea just accomplished renders it a very present help, meeting the necessities of the. housewife of moderate means in a time of soaring food prices. In the British lies the news has been received with enthusiasm. The baking powder company, while not being ac cused of being an out and out philan thropist in the matter, is pointed out as having provided the means of effect ing an enormous saving in household affairs in a way that benefits every body and harms nobody except it be the pride of the autocratic hen. Tho company only completed its experi ments recently, and already the an nouncements are being spread broad cast in the newspapers, which, it will be remembered, many years agoytnaso the name of Royal Baking Powder a household word all over the world.
