TO SPEAK IN SALEM Famous Social Worker Will Deliver Several Addresses Here Soon Raymond Robbins, of Chicago, who is regarded as one of the most prominent social workers in the central states, will deliver several addresses in the city next week. He will arrive Sunday. Monday aft ernoon from 5 to 6 o'clock he will speak to the law students of Willamette uni versity. Monday evening he will de liver a lecture to the students in Waller hall and again Tuesday evening. Ad mittance to these lectures are by eard. The life history of Baymond Robbins reads more like fiction than actual fact. He was born 44 bears ago in Kentucky and during his early manhood, worked in the Kentucky mines. Later he went to Colorado to work iu the mines and there attended night school. Having saved enough funds, he went to Wash ington and attended the Columbia uni versity law school. After his gradua tion, he practiced law in San Fran cisco. At the time of the gold strike in the Klondike, Mr. Robbins with so many others was attracted to that country. . While passing a winter in the upper Yukon country, he strayed from camp and was lost. Iu his wanderings he came to a cross on the roadside erected over the grave of an unknown. From that time the serious side of life- ap pealed to him. Having made a fortune in his search for gold, he returned to civilization and devoted his time to social service work. Although wealthy in the world 's goods, with his wife he devotes all his time in social service work and makes hi home with the poor and unfortunate in Chicago. His work also takes him to the young men in educational institutions and his tour of the west is especially to talk, to young men. He has been a promi nent member of the progressive paitv, although now affiliating with the republicans.
