Rowland La Fore, of Hopmere, was in
town yesterday bringing with him the
statement that ho recently killed 19
coons and one mink. Since the women
are now wearing so many furs and furs
are quite the thing, coon skins are of
real value. Mr. La Fore says ho sold
seven a few days ago for $14.30 and
yesterday was handed $10.05 for nine
skins.

In the debate last evening on health
insurance between ttic McMinnville
high school negative team and Salem
high affirmative, Salem was declared
the winner by a two to one vote. And
Salem lost in Silverton last night on the
same vote, the Salem negative team go
ing down before the Silverton affirm
ative. In the debates on the proposed
health Insurance law, the Salem neg
ative is represented by John Scofield,
Maynard Sawyer and Phillip Elliott,
while the affirmative side of the debate
was represented by Dewey Probst and
Kenneth Powers.

Miss Buth Paxson, of Pittsburg, Pa.,
has been appointed successor of Miss
Flora M. Case as school librarian. The
position carries with it a salary of
$1,000 a year and one month's vacation.
Miss Puxsou is an Oregonian, born at
Central Point, and was the personal
choice of Miss Case for her successor,
following the election of Miss Case as
librarian uf the city library. Miss Pax
son is a graduate of the Carneeie
Training school for librarians and is
now employed with that library. Her
work with the schools here will begin
February 1. Resides being a graduate of
the training librarian course of the
Carnegie school, she is a graduate of
Wellsely college,
