Other charges are that the court employed a private sur veyor to do the work, ignoring the legally elected county surveyor, and that the work was characterized by general extravagance and the insnrring of obligations in excess of the amount levied in that district for the pur pose. Tobin & Stevens of Portland, con tractors, constructed the new bridge. The contract price was $0,300. It is stated that the bridge had not been for mally accepted by the county court, but "that the records show the eon tractors to have received their pay, with the exception of $715 for extras, which has been in dispute. Mrs. Bearden had gone to the outskirts of La Grande to milk tho family cow, when she was set upon by a dehorned bull from a neigh boring pasture. She was bunted over and her collar bone broken and several less serious wounds were inflicted.
