Four hundred thousand rifles bought during President TIernies Fonseca's ad ministration, the anxiety of certain warring Kuropean powers to get these rifles and President Wenceslau Bra.' strict idea of neutrality have ensnared Brazil in a nasty international tangle. When Brazil bought the rifles three years ago Europe laughed. It asked what Brazil's army of 10.000 men would do with 400 thousand rifles. But wheu the war broke out, England and Russia especially, remembered and immediate ly approached certain members of the official circle of Brazil and. it is -said, were assured they had reason to hope the rifles would be on the firing line "pronto" if not sooner. The assurers failed to consider one man. President Braz takes Ms duties seriously and President Braz. put his foot down on these hopes. "Nothing doing," said he. "contrary to the laws of neutrality." To make his refusal emphatic he discharged his secietary. Sr. Lafayette de Carvnlho. accused of being head of the clique that promised to get the rifles. Jt is nid the British government was not content to let the matter rest. Ac cusations nre published with bitter com ments iu the Brazilian press thnt Eng land exerted pressure upon the Brazil ian government to make Brazil sell the rifles and violate the laws of neutral ity. According to these accusations, Roth schilds, Lou, Inn bankers, who held a large amount of Brazilian treasury bills which fell due on January 1. insinuated that these bills could be taken up in rifles. Despite financial embarrass ment, President Braz paid the notes in British gold. Then came a proposal from a "neti trnl" syndicate in Argentine to buy the rifles, and when that was refusert an other company made propositions. Presi dent Braz. stands pat and the accusa tiuns and rumors are being investigated by a federal senate committee. NEW MEN BUY BANK STOCK T. T. and T. I'. Believing that no medicine ought to be paid for unless it does the user some good they have adopted the plan of selling Solvax, the standard kidney remedy, under a positive' guar antee of quick relief from all kidney or bladder misery, or money back without a question. This speaks eloquently for the virtues of the remedy and already has created a wide-spread demand for it here in Salem. Hundreds of people in every walk of life have been re lieved of the agonies attendant on weak, disarranged or clnggcd-up kid neys and bladder by this remarkable remedy. It is not just merely a kidney treatment, it is a medicine that aims to put the entire, painracked body into normal condition and give vigorous health after the many painful disorders caused directly or indirectly by sick kidneys. A change for the better will be seen after the first few doses of Solvax and its continued use should tone up the entire system of improp erly working organs and give the de sire to live and enjoy life to its full est. Solvax is considered by many the best kidney remedy on the market to day because it aims to cure by striking directly at the cause of all the trouble. The many pains and aches caused by improperly working kidneys cannot bo permanently cured unless the cause is removed. Solvax is sold under a positive guar antee to refund the money if it does not cure. This is the strongest proof that can be offered as to the merit of the medicine. You are cheating your I self out of your slice of life if you do not give oivax a cnance. iter, it today from Daniel J. Fry or any leading druggist iu this vicinity. In a short time I was free i from kidney complaint. I have never had a sign of kidney complaint since." A Permanent Cure.
