FULL LEASED WIRE TELEGRAPH REPORT
The announcement yesterday of the death of Mrs.
Abigail Scott Duniway, although it was' expected, caused
a wave of sorrow to sweep over the entire State, and send
its ripples clear across the continent.
Born in 1834, her long and useful life fell among
stirring scenes, that broadened and developed an unusual
ly bright mind, and eventually placed her prominently be
fore the .nation.
Crossing the plains by ox team in 1852 in the first
flush of womanhood, she shared the dangers of the trip
in those early days and felt, out on the boundless prairies
and under the cloudless skies, her first great sorrow; for
there her mother stricken to death by cholera found her
last resting place beside the Oregon trail. Here under
the lordly firs she was married, and under their whisper
ing branches her children were born.
In early life she began her battle for woman suffrage,
and her tireless and ceasless efforts met with glorious
