Funeral of Mrs. Williams Held Tuesday Afternoon (Capital Journal Special Service.) Dalla, Or., Sept. 30. The remains of the late Mrs. Anna Williams were laid to rest in the I. O. O. F. cemetery Tues day afternoon. The funeral services were held from the family residence on Church and Court streets, Rev. C. C. Curtis of Corvallis, former pastor of the Dallas Christian church having charge of the services. Mrs. Williams was born in Pennsylvania in 1832 and came to Oregon in 1865. She hod been a resident of this country for the past fifty years. Sella Liquor to Indians. Minto, superintendent of the Oregon state penitentiary who was Rilled by Otto Hooker, an escaped con vict on the public road about two miles north of Albany at 11:30 Monday night was well known in this city and had a host of friends here who were deeply grieved to hear of his sudden death. Mr. Minto was a particularly warm friend of ex-Sherifr J, M. Grant and the two hud hunted criminals together many times when the former was sher iff of Marion county. STATE NEWS I rolk County Observer: Gophers seem to be more numerous in tho Mult nomah section of the valley than usual. Farmers are doing their utmost to de stroy them by using traps and guns. Many men are making a business of trapping them for the reward of 25 cents a head. Millard McCabb, a re tired photographer of Independence, went into the trapping of gophers a few years ngo and during the last year; caught nearly 4(1(10 gophers. His prin-j cipal operations were confined to the , farms of Riddell llros, and J. B. Stump, ! both west of Monmouth. Marshfield Record: The local colony : of Greeks gathered yesterday evening' at the Greek coffee house on Front I street and discussed the latest devel opments in the Balkans for several hours.
