The city of Dallas has catered into a five-year con tract with the Oregon Power company to light its streets with 100 candle power incandescent lights, paying if 22 per year for each light. On the new contract the light company agrees to install n lamp on practically every street intersection in the city, nud this will require nearly (10 lamps. These lamps will be suspended IS feet above the ground on anils set in poles. The Oregon Power company will commence tho installation of the new system im mediately after the first of the new year and expect to have it ill working order by the first of March, By the terms of the contract, a deduction of 2f cents per light will be made for each night n lamp is dark, the company having .12 hours after official notifica tion in which to remedy the defect be fore being penalized. This system of lighting is being adopted by practically all of tin progressive cities of the val ley and is proving more sntisl'nctory than the old are light systems.
