Corvallis, Or., March 23. V. J. Knapp, an employe of tho Corvallis Sand & Gravel company, was drownod in the. Willamette river near tho gravel bunkers Saturday afternoon. Ho was a single man and about 25 years of ago. Mr. Knapp and E. A. Collier, superin tendent of tho gravel company, had been at work at the bunkers, and put out in a rowbont to go to a scow in the river on which the gravel is loaded from a hoist, for tho purpose of shifting its position.
