Capital City Brevities
An organisation was., formed in
Portland last Wednesday composed of
former Willamette university' law stu
dents, and its purpose is to boost Judgs
Charles L. McNary for re-election to
the supreme bench. The new club is to
be called the "Portland-Willafriette
McNary for Re-Election. " The Port
land lawyers are solid for Judge Mc
Nary, having broken into the legal
world while the supreme justice was
then dean of the Willamette law school
here. They intend to canvass the
whole county of Multnomah for the
popular jurist, and will bIbo call upon
their old brother Btudents who are now
practicing law in various parts, of the
state. Judge McNary is well known
throughout the stato, and there is prob
ably not a county in Oregon in which j
there is not a lawyer who graduated
from the local law department.

Attorney-General Crawford has today
filed an appeal in the case of the state
against the Btato board of control in
volving about $16,000 said to have been
spent improperly. The money was a part
of the penitentiary foundry fund or re
volving fund, and was spent by Govern
or West to make improvements at the
penitentiary. The attorney-general, in
the suit, alleged that the board had no
right to spend the money, notwithstaud
ng the fact that the stnte got full value.
Circuit Judge Kelly sustained a do
murror to the complaint and dismissed
the suit.
It la believed fresh eggs are going
into cold storage in Portland, while the
Chinese article is placed on sale. At
Quinaby station alone 500 dozen eggs
