They are travilii. in Mr. Schaefer 's auto and have all the necessary camping outfit and iiihiug tackle along with them. The young men will first go us far as Klamath Falls and then the trip will be extended into the Paisley and LaPine regions. Donald I'p.john, the recent appointee ot Governor West to fill the office of district attorney for the twelfth ju dicial district, is the first person to reg ister under the Gill register law, passed by the Inst legislature, providing that the registration books be kept open un til .10 days before the election, and also that each county clerk file with the secretary of state the list of registra tions every week.- A letter was received by the rail road commimssion from a man in War renton, near Astoria, saying that the A. & C. R. R., a branch of the South ern Pacific, had been dealing out death to some of his domestic animals. This ij the stumbling block to tho officials to ascertain whether the gentleman speaks of a cow or a horse. It must be somewhat chagrining to the officials of the commission to know that they are unable to recognize either a cow or a poor old broken down horse when they meet one. It is sure a horse on them. A party of 26 ministers of the Sweedish church arrived in this city yesterday afternoon and Secretary Gregg, of the commercial club, met them, and the visitors were shown about the city in autos. The fruit dis tricts were visited and the party was taken to the capitol building, where they met the tate officials. After the sightseeing trip, the minister lunched at the Hotel Marion, and in the even ing they attended the local Sweedish church, where a nice program was car ried out for their entertainment. Willard Wirt., a former representa tive of the Portland Journal in Salem, and now a deputy district attorney of Prineville, Crook county, arrived In this city this morning and will remain a few days renewing old acquaintances. Mr. Wirti was appoint ed county attorney of Crook county by Governor West, but tho referending of the act creating the office is holding up the position. An amended complaint in the case of I.. H. McMahun vs. the secretary of state and the state treasurer was filed in the circuit court here yesterday. A few minor points were changed In the original complaint in the amended one, and the case will be hurried through the lower tribunal as quickly as pos sible, in order that tho supreme court may act upon. The case involves the validity of an net passed by the last legislature authorizing the secretary of state to issue warrants in the sum of 150,1)00 to be used in the construction of an irrigation project in Crook coun ty. Suffrage BUI Passed. Springfield, 111., June 11. The wo man suffrage bill passed the lower house of the state legislature today by a vote of 81 to 58. It already has been passed by the senate, and now goes to Governor Dunne for his signature. Governor Dunne announced that he will sign the bill. It gives the wnmn the right to vote at presidential and municipal ejections. They may not vote, however for candidates for gov ernor or assemblvmen. Charles H. Fisher, former owner of the Eugene Guard, stopped off in Sa lem for a few minutes to see Governor West. Mr. Fisher has been to Portland as a delegate from the "Radiators" of Eugene. Connors, Wanted. The state of Washington has made application to Governor West for the etradition of Kenneth Connors, want ed in that state on a charge of grand larceny. State Agent Walter Hogan will leave this afternoon for Portland with the necessary papers for Connors' arrest. MUST BE SOLD. Maupin,' a mail clerk on tho Southern Pacific from Woodburn to Sil verton, recently pleaded guilty to the harge of assaulting Hev. Ford of the Christian church at Woodburn. It is stated that at a meeting of the church trustees Maupin made the statement that Ford had misappropriated some of the church funds. Ford replied by making known a few things that were not in any degree flattering to Maupin who became angry and began to do phy sical injury to the reverend gentleman.
