Henry Stovens Chamberlain, born In 1843 In Manchester, Vermont, his life-long home till last September. passed away quietly and peacefully early Sunday morning, February 11, In tho presence of his Immediate family. He leaves to mourn him a widow, Mrs. Harlott Landon Cham berlain, a daughter, Clara M. Cham berlain and a host of relatives and friends in East and West. Miss Chamberlain has teught In the West for four years, the la.st two of which have been spent In Salem. The Dast summer Miss Chamberlain returned to her native state, Vermont and In tho fall brought back hor father and mother to spend the year with her in Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Chamberlain soon loved the beauties and charms of the WeBt and lito for all seemed happy and vigorous. An old trouble of Mr. Chamberlain's, hardening of the arteries, after long development, suddonly reached a crisis, when he had enjoyed but a few months in tho West, and death came to claim and remove him In the 68th year of a full and vigorous life. The funeral services were con ducted at tho home by the Rev. Mr. Perry Frederick Sbrook, paster of the Salem Congregational church. The congreuatlonal choir sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Lead Kindly Light, favorite hymns of the deceased. The remains were taken to Portland for cremation.
