M. E. HOLCOMH DROPPED DEAD "WHILE SITTING AT BItEAKFAST TABLE. Mrs. M. E. Holcomb, ono of the oldest and most respected residents in South Salom, died suddenly, while siting at tho breakfast "tablo this morning, heart falluro being the cause. Mrs. Holcomb was born In Mc Honry courity, 111., in 1854, from whero sho removed to Oregon and has been, a resident of this city for tho past 30 years. A kind and lov ing disposition has won her many friends in this city who will be grieved to learn of her untimely death. ' Mrs. Holcomb was tho mother of two children, Chas., now living in Salom, and Etta, who is now dead. Tho husband and father passed away several years ago. ' Tho deceased appeared to bo in good health this morning until sho was attacked with a dizziness. Her- solf and son, Charley, were eatlrn; breakfast, when Mrs. Holcomb sud denly complained of a blindness, and after sitting rigid for about live minutes, fell forward on tho dishes and soon expired. Charley called in Dr. O. E. Miles as quickly as possi Dlo, but lifo had becomo so extinct that the physician could do nothing. Funoral announcements will ar rive later. According to the complaint filed by tho business men, tho Southern Pa cific recently decided to raise the prico on Eastern shipments, by mak ing the local rate apply to them in stead of tho present 10-cent rate. The signers of the complaint state that such a rato would bo unreasonable and exhorbltant, and asks the com mission to hold a hearing on the matter, and to Issue an order re straining the company from putting tho rates Into effect.
