Lato yesterday afternoon Ralph rode out of his father's barn on Ferry street on n little pony, a regular pot and gentle as a kitten; from thnt time nothing Is known of his nctloim or whoreabouts except as tqld by Willie Kaiser, until his mangled body was found nenr tho cornor of Fourteenth and Mill streets about SMC o'clock by Mr. and Mrs. lludd Hill. The Kalsor boy snys he was riding a pony and joined Ralph, but this must hnvo been only n short trmo before tho accident. Ho says they were rldltiK together and flnnlly got to racing, Ralph's horso not ahead and the Kaiser boy lost sight of It and Its rider. Of thin, howover. tho Kaiser boy knew nothing, and no one saw anything of tho accident excep Mr and Mrs. Hill. Thoy were walking down Fourteenth streot on their way homo nbout 8:45 whon tho horso galloped by them, going south Ion Fourteenth streot. It was qulto ! dark but thoy thought they could seo 1 something dragging on the right side of the horse, the further side from tnem. As tho horso neared Mill street It turned to tho west as though to go up that stroot, but turned again i and continued south on Fourteenth It was at this point tho boy's foot wis released from tho stirrup and tho crushed and mangled body tumbled into the dusty streot. In a moment Mr. and Mrs. Hill reached tho spot, and although they could not seo tho boy, heard him moan. Discovering the body, Mrs. Hill at once callod some of the people living near and tolophoned for u doctor, while Mr. Hill carrkd the limp and almost life less body to the sidewalk. At this time W. N. Savage and E. C Cornforth came by In a buggy and. taking tno poor bruised body In their arms, drove rapidly to tho Wlllnmetto Sanitarium, where everything pos sible was done for the poor boy, but he expired In a few moments without regaining consciousness. The body was at once taken to his undertaking parlors by Coroner Clough, but no ono, so far, owing to the terribly orushed and battered condition of the face could Identify the body, and In this connection is ono of the most pathetic incidents. Mr Johnson, the dead boy's father, hearing that some ono was hurt, went Into the undertaking rooms, but failed to recognize his son. He seem ed to have a premonition of the sor row that had come to him. for he telephoned his wife asking If Ralph was home yet. Getting a reply in the negative, he went back to the undertaking parlors, and to Mr. Clough said. "If there Is a soar on the left knee, that Is my boy." Tho pants leg was hastily pulled up and th tell-tale mark told Its mute story of a bereaved father and mother. Ralph was the youngest son of (Continued on page B.) Tho robbers forced him to run tho our at top speed, undor penalty of being shot, after the robbery. Santa Clara, Ca!., Aug. 13. Two young man about SO yonrs old walk ed into tho Santa Clara Valley bank nt 10:30 o'clock this morning, cov ered tho oftlco forco of four mon with revolvers, and compelled tho cashlor to burn ovor to them 17,000 la gold. Tho robbers then backed through the doar, Jumped Into a waiting au tomobile, in which thoy had driven up to tho bank and started towards Ban Francisco. The young men did not wear masks and tho bank officials say -they can easily Identify them If they are captured. About a mlto out of town tho au tomobllo broke down and the two robbers and tho driver of tho ma chine, who evidently was an accom plice, took to their heels. Chlor or Police Walsh, with n posse of citizens, Immediately start ed in pursuit and the capture of the robbers Is expected hourly. "Come through!" demanded the younger of the robbers, as ho point ed two revolvers at tho heads of tho cashier and bookkeeper. The othor man "covered" the vlce.presldent and teller. With no chance to roach for tho revolvers tinder their desks, so sud don and unoxpectod was tho domat.d, tho order was obeyed. Tho cashlor wns forced to hand out all gold In sight. "Don't hold nny back or I'll blow your head off," said the robber, and his voice and nttltudo gave convinc ing ovldonco of tho sincerity' of tho throat.
