In tho grains. On the contrary It
might bo held that such a substanco
would act beneficially upon the pro
duction of milk and butter.
It Is .thereforo not surprising that
tho practical tests bear out such an
opinion. In the report of the Now
York Agricultural Experiment sta
tion about "Brewers' Grains as a
Food for Milch Cows" (1884) Is
found thlB statement: "Wo havo
thus our answer vory plainly out
lined; tho feeding of the brewers'
grafhs was conductive to tho flow
of milk."
And tho official report from Ger
many tostlflos to tho fact that
browora' grains havo n mo9t favor

giving a milk of highest qunllty
and that .tho butter from such milk
possessed oxcollent flavor and' keep

Thh InBt fermentation Is .tho re

and this chango Is tho cause. of tho
rottonlng of tho grains. What par
ticularly dlstlngulshoB this decom

Tho Gorman army has learned by
exporlonco that it Is not advlsnblo
to mix any other feed of llko char
acter, or of high nutritive value,
with brewers' grains. This was
found to bo especially true In regard
to the feeding of the cavalry horses.
Observations of 'Mnercker and
Delbruck, German authorities on tho
brewing and donatured alcohol ln
dustlres, proved that, 75 liters (18
gallons) of distillers refuso was suf
ficient to produco the maximum flow
of milk, and as tho browers' grains
contain moro nourishment by far
than distillers' refuse, not moro
than ten to twelve gallons por day,
of wot brewers' grains should bo
given.
It has nlso been proved that warm
feed is moro conducive to. tho flow
of milk.
On account of the largo amount
of water contlned In tho grains It
Is advisable to reduce the proportion
of such grains for young cattle which
aro growing, or horses who havo to
do hard work, bb tho grains are not
suitable for producing solid mus
cular flesh.
Summing up tho results of the ob
servations, wo find tho following to
bo nbout tho right quantity per day
for various animals:
Grown milch cowb,....10 to 12 gal.
Grown horses 3 g&l.
Grown hogs ......... .18 to 20 gal.
Grown sheep less .than horsos
Young growing animals should bo
fed less grains and more of other
food proportionately. Other food
sufllclont to make tho regular
amount must bo mixed with the
browors' grains.
