Three witnesses were examined and their testimony largely discounted that of Sims, who di'ew such a gloomy picture yesterday. The witnesses were Commander Fletcher, Lieutenant Commander Chaso, Philip RA. Alger, professor of mathematics In the naval acade my, and Lieutenant Commander Strauss. They declared that the dangers from tho direct ammunition hoists were being rapidly eliminated, and that tho battleships wore now being fitted with hoists as safe as those on any warship in the world.
