The council met In regular session
last night, and held a harmonious
session, tranoactlne a larco amount
of business.
Among tho most Important busi
ness taken up was the accentnn of
Carneglo's library gift, referring of
a resolution asking for tho removal
or the "Y" at tho corner of State and
High streets, the favoring of tho Im-
provomont of 45 blocks of the city's
streets and the introduction nr n
new dog ordinance.
Tho meeting was called to order
by Mayor Rodgers, and the following
alderman answered to tho roll call:
Elliott, Radcllff, Goodo, Jacobs, Frn
sor, Low, Stolz, Eldrldge, Millard,
Momtt and Mooms.
Tho list of standing committees
was announced by tho mavor.
Tho mayor announced that Alder
man Jacobs should servo until his
successor, Aldermnn-eloct Prosnnll

Tho Salem Browing Association
has comploted a successful year's
business, and last night, ro-olected
tho presont offlcors for the ensuing

The aldermen statod that the com
mittee on bridges had hold a meet
ing d'lrlng the week aud was work
ing In perfect harmony.
The council authorized the com
mittees on street and bridges to pur
chase lumbor for tho use of the city
for 1908.
Alderman Stolz said that the com
mittees on streets and bridges
should be authorized to make such
repairs in the streets as becomes
necessary from time to time. "Oft
