SEVERE STORM SWEEPS COAST The severest storm of the season, and possibly tho severest wo will have, has been visited upon us the past few days. Since Saturday, with tho exception of a portion of Mon day, It has rained Incessantly, the result being that tho river is at ab normal height and both benefit and Injury has been occasioned. Tho benefit consist In .the vast number of logs that have been moved from their summer lodgings and tho injury might bo summed up In damaged roads and bridges, destroyed fencing and drift-scattered lands. Comraunl cation, too, has been partially shut off, at least by rall, and tho malls from Roseburg have" been overdue whon thoy arrived. The river has attnlned a holght seldom equaled, and at this writing (Thursday), it Is within two feet of reaching tho high water mark of January last. All tho low lauds are flooded and tho rains contlnuo with no present Indication of a clear-up. Trains were unable to go farther than Coqulllo Monday ( though Tues day a -train rait as far as Johnson's mill to get passengors brought down from tho Point by steamer. Since Tuesday no traiiiB havo ovon reached Coqulllo from Mnrshflold, passengers being compolled to go by boat bo tween hero and John Yoakam's place.
