Tho roports from numerous growors as to yield shows that tho crop in Sclioharlo county will not exceed thnt of last year. This Is also truo of tho crop In tho state. They Scorn, In Snn Francisco, to He One und Indivisible. (S. F. Chronicle) The carmen's union Is now en gaged In an Investigation for the purpose of ascertaining to what ex tent the recent strike was due to an nttpintit to advanco the political for tunes or ambitions of this or that agitator. It Is unnecessary to say thnt the Chronicle does not Intend to take part In this Investigation, ex ccnt to suggest to tho carmen that It be made very thorough. Nevertheless the Incident suggests somo comment which is well worth tho attention of union labor men, whether they give it that attention or not. It is absolutely certain that so long as laboring men attempt to set themselves off from the rest of tho community and try through po litical organization to secure legisla tion thoro never will be a strike of any consequence which not organized and directed with an eye to the fur therance of somebody's desire to get ofllco or to control officials for per sonal profit. Any other condition Is unthinkable. No measure Is ever proposed In tho Republican, Demo cratic or any other political party which designing politicians do not think to turn to their personal ad vantage. Is thero anything in tho ixuvif xuwiibuiiu iou icei loromost vantage, is tnero anything in tin Into a prune scalding vat at Rainier character of tho known labor acltn Thursdny, and scalded himself to tors In this cltv which stamns thorn - as moro honest nnd pure than other the waist. In this weok for .fact, know nny political touter who made use of and their votes deliver ed, Just as the "good citizens" of other political parties are voted by their party bosses. To assumo that a "labor party" will be manipulated any more honestly than any other party Is absurd. To assume that the labor party bosses will not endeavor to make use of labor disputes to further their Interests Is also ab surd. What somo of the carmen be- iiovo tn imvfl taken nlace In connec tion with their own recent strike Is only what is absolutely certain to ncrnr In all Imnortnnt disputes so long as labor, as such, attempts to act In political unity. Only very foolish men can believe that any Industrial class can have any Interests of a political nature distinct from those of other classes. The only question on which men can properly divide politically are those which affect the Interests of all classes alike. We aro perfectly aware that It Is at present wasted breath to tell this truth to the work- lngmen of this city, but we also know just as well that In due time they will find It out for themselves. The Chronicle knows nothing whatever In respect to the personal honesty of any political labor boss or official In this city. What It does know Is that the agents of material Interests who are in the business of buying the votes or actions of officials and boss es Invariably assume labor agitators to be for sale until the contrary Is proved by an actual offer and re fusal. o HSSftgi Sitters 00 Kl U tlcK Takot!xi ters ., .
