The flames, which started from a spark lighting on the dry roof, were fanned by the high breeze, and almost be fore the occupants could realize their danger, the whole house was ablaze, tho logs dried by the long spell of rainless weather burned like tinder, and both the building and Its con tents were utterly destroyed despite the efforts that were made to save It. Fortunately no one was Injured, those in tho hotel being given warn ing to time to escape. A large num ber of guests were at place, but tho majority of them were at the springs fishing, or otherwise enjoying them selves away from the house when the fire started. The loss Is esti mated at -about $2000, with $600 Insurance. The guests and employes lost everything except what they had on their backs and an appeal to Eugene has been made for clothing and ne cessities. A wagon load of supplies will bo dispatched up tho river as early this morning as tho necssary arrangements can bo made. Night- watchman George Croner having at tended to this relief. Among the Eugene citizens who were guests of tho Log Cabin were Judge Harris and wife, Miss Ida Pat terson, Miss Ellen Green, Miss Myr tle Kays, Miss Marquis of Berkeley. Rob- lnson, at ttho request of a number of citizens, Is now making preparations to give tho opera "Queen Esther" ou Friday and Saturday evenings, dur ing the fair, at court house. Some fresh musical talont will be Intro duced, and Mrs. Leo M. .Travis of Eugene has consented to take the part of Queen Esther. Tho sacred opera will bo another fine attraction for the fair.
