Ho has already won fame by his
work during the smallpox epidemic
In Boston In 1902, for which he was
made a professor in the Harvard
medical school, with pathology ns his
specialty.
Then at the time of the smallpox
scourge in Manila he was sent there
as Harvard's representative. A few
months ago he went to his present
work. The wedding is set for the
second week In September. When
married Dr. and Mrs.-Brlnckerhoff
will spend part of their time at the
home of Mrs. White's sister, Mrs.
James B. Castle, in Honolulu, but
will give most of their days at the
sanatorium In the effort to find the
euro for the dread disease which
shuts those afflicted by it off from the
rest "f mankind.
Whether Dr. Brlnckerhoff and his
bride will meet the fate of Dr. Da-
mien remains to be seen, out uie
say death is Insignificant if only they
can help poor, unnided, suffering hu
manity. The meeting of the two last
Christmas week In Washington was
romantic. A society acquaintance
soon ripened Into love.
Dr. Brinckhoff said he was going
to Hawaii and Miss White said she
had been there once and wanted to
go again. Sho followed him later to
the Island. Miss Whitd went to the
beautiful homo of her sister, Mrs
Jumes B. Castle, in tho residential
section of Honolulu, where she
met Dr. Brlnckerhoff again. Soon
wealth decided to mnrry fame.
Miss White was the belle of Win
chenron. her father being ono of
New England's multl-mlllionnrie
manufacturers. Her mother wns n
member of the famous Long family
Doctor Brlnckerhoff Is a Boston boy.
Receiving his dlplomn from a Boston
high school he went to Harvard In
tho class of '97, taking the scientific
course. In 1901 he added an M. D
to his A. B. nt tho Harvard medical,
graduating with the highest honors.

Butte, Mon., Aug. 11. John H.
Price of Phlllpsburg, Montana, super
intendent of the Gold Reef mines, at
this season of the year sheds his skin
like a snake. It is a very peculiar
piece of nature's work, the cause of
which the medical profession has so
far been unable to explain. Some
years ago, by special request, Mr.
Price went to Chicago where eminent
physicians from all parts of the world
witnessed his shedding process nt
the institute of Natural Sciences, but
no solution for the cause of the phe
nomena was reached.
The shedding of the skin of his
entire body is complete, Including the
nnlls on his fingers nnd toes, aud the
process of shedding covers a period
of from three to five days.
At the approach of the shedding
period Mr. Price becomes quite ill,
has high fever and the sklu over his
entire body apparently dies up. As
soon as new skin hns formed under
neath which usually requires a couple
of days, the old skin peels off and
Mr. Price feels rejuvenated with n
skin tender ns thnt of a child. Until
the new skin hnrdens he is abllged to
exercise considerable care to prevent
Its breaking.
Since coming to Montana 30 years
or more ago, Mr. Price has been
shedding his skin annually nt the
usual period, which is between the
ISth of July and the middle of Au
gust. Mr. Price often Indulges In h bit of
fun hlmseff. or nt least he used to,
nt skin shedding time. It was In
1S89 when he walked Into Robert
McDonald's saloon on Broadway,
where Newt Vaughn was nttendlng
bar, and nsked If his face was good
for the drinks. When Informed that
It was he called up everybody In the
houso and nfter all had what they I
wished Mr. Price peeled off the sklnj
of his face and laid the mnsk on the 1
bar. Newt Vaughn saw the joke was'
one him and all hndnnother at the
expense of the house, notwlthstand-)
Ing that Mr. Price offered to pay the
bill.
