AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION Boston, Mass., June C For tho first time in 41 years the American Med ical association, th!o largest medical association in thto world, Is holding its annual convention in this city. This is jho 57th annual convention of tho as sociation, wkjoh numbers many thou sanda of tho best physicians in the United States) among its members. A great many of tho members arrived hero Sunday and yesterday and somo preliminary work was dono yesterday, when also tho oponing session of tho American Medical Editorial association vras held. Tho oponing sossion of tho American Medical association was called to or der at 10:30 o'clock this forenoon at Mechanic's hall, whero all tho general meetings will bo held. At tho opening session tho delegates wore welcomed by tho mayoT of tho city and Dr. Herbert L. Burrell, representing tho physicians of this citiy. President Dr. Lewis S. McMurtry, of Louisville, Ky responded! ana tnen read Ms annual address. Thoro will bo another busi- I ness session In tho afternoon. Besides tho regular general sessions, which will bo told on overy foronoon and afternoon of tho four days of tho I convention, there will bo special meet i ings of tho twelve sections into which the work of tho convention will bo dl I vided. At these section meetings much important work of a technical charac ter, including tho practico of medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, surgery and anatomy, hygiono and sanitary science, ophtbnlmology, nervous and mental diseases, therapeutics, etc., will bo considered, Ono of tho most important features will bto tho clinical exhibits which will i lo presented daily at tho Massachu- I otts General hospital, Boston City IIos- ' pital, Carney Hospital, Children's I Hospital, and probably at tho Good j Samaritan, tho Infants and Corey Hill hospitals. Thoro will also bo a special clinical exhibit givon daily at Mechan ics' hall. Tho headquarters of tlw c-ni nt. fleers is at the Vendomo hotel; tho Brunswick is tho headquarters of tho section of surgery; the Coploy Squaro for tho section of obstetrics and gy necology; at tho same hotel Is also the headquarters for tho section of pathology and physiology; tho Lenox is tho headquarters of tho section of opthamology; tho Nottingham for tho section of diseases of children as well as for tho section of cutaneous medidno and surgery; tho Oxford for tho section of pharmacology; tho Som- .ersot for tho Bectlon of medicine; tho Ihorndyko for the section of hygiene and sanitary scienco and for tho sec tion of laryngology and ontology; tho Touralno for tho section of nervous and mental diseases; tho Westminster for tU'o section of stomatology. An olaborato program for tho enter tainment of tho seven or eight thous and delegates has been prepared. Tho president's reception will bo held on tho evening of Thursday in Mechanics' hall. Besides that thero will bo nu merous other receptions, teas and oth er entertainments for tho Uelegaites and their ladies. Tho headquarters of tho ladies is at Paul Bovero hall. Tho new building of tho Harvard Medical school, which will bo placed in commission in September will bo open for tho inspection of the dele gate1! during tho four days of tho con vention. Tho American Medical association was founded in 1847 and has now moro than 20,000 members, among them nearly every prominent physician in tho United Stntes. Most of tho pre vious conventions of tho organization were held in New York, Philadelphia, Saratoga and Chicago, where tho head quarters of tho association is located.
