Making Great Preparations
for the Develoouient
Conveniion
The live buslnes men of Eugene are
very active in making preparations to
entertain tho third Willamette Valley
Development Convention, and inako It
a success. They appreciate the fact
that some of the brightest men in the
state are coming there on Friday nnd
Saturday of next week to discuss tho
most Important interests of Oregon
irrigation, highways, harbors and rail
roadsand they are planning to have
the greatest clnmbake ever given in
Western Oregon to feed 2000 visitors.
The Daily Register of Tuesday says:
"Col. E. Hofer, the aggressive editor
of the Salem Journal, president of tho
Willamette Valloy Development Lenguo
nnd general nil-round live man, just now
is the busiest mnn in Oregon. But tho
Colonel's activity has nnught to do
with politics. Ho is striving to mako
tho coming meeting of tho Development
League in Eugcno tho biggest thing
along the lino of progress that ever hap-
pened in tho state. Moreover he has tho
confldenco that ho will succeed in his
efforts. That's hnlf tho battle, if not
all, and ho will find the local committeo
behind him to further his plans in every
possible way."
To Set Aside a Deed.
Hoefer & Zorn, through their attor
ney, Mr. Bingham, today filed and ar
gued before Judge Galloway a demur
rer and motion in the snit'of Eldridge
vs. Hoefer & Zorn ' and David M.
Keene. ,
Hoefer & Zorn held a deed for soma
property in the northern end of the
county, but Eldridge alleges that the
deed they bold is merely a mortgage.
Tho property was sold by Mrs. Eld
ridge while she was administrator of
the cstnto of her husband, and tho son
alleges that she oottld only sell her
dower interest. The" property U valued
at $42,000, ami Mr. Eidridge wishes to
redeem it nt $1-1,000, the priee paid for
it by the defendants.
The argument on the motion and de
murrer was taken under advisement
until October 3d.
