The dnte of tho fight botweon "Jimmy" Brltt nnd "Kid" Sullivan has ar rived, but there appears to bo littlo or no Increase of interest in tho oVent. Nevertheless, tho Hayes Vnlloy Club, under whoso auspices tho mill is to tako place, expqets n fair-sited crowd on hand tonight, basing their expecta tions on tho fact that Brltt has a host of followers among tho sporting fra ternity who never fall to turn out to sco him fight. Tho lack of interest in tho bout is duo chiefly to tho belief that the lad from tho natlonnl capital is no match for Brltt, nnd that tho fight will con sequently bo a one-Bided affair. Tho fight followers wcro desirous of seeing Brltt nnd "Battling" Nelson In the ring ngnln and nro disappointed that Brltt should side-stop a match with tho Dano and tako on Sullivan, who is rognrdod ns nn easy mark. Sullivan is nn unknown quantity hero, bufsomo of tho critics who have watched him at work think well of him and the prediction is mado in somo qunrtcrs thnt ho will givo tho San Francisco idol a hnrd tusslo when they como together tonight. Sullivan is n slam-bang fighter of tho rough-and-roady type. Ills chief defect is his lack of experience. His brief rcsord, howovcr, is n crcditablo ono. Although ho has been in tho fighting game only a few yenrs, ho has held his own with j thrco of tho best men of his division nnd disposed of several lesser ones. His fifteen-round draw -with Eddlo Hanlon was unquestionably a good per formance, especially as it is held that Hanlon was fortunato to get tho de cision of draw. Sullivan followed with a ten-round draw with "Young Corbett." In this bnttlo Sullivan's mnnnger insisted on a draw if tho men wcro on their feet at tho finish, and he was much cha grined when ho snw how well Sullivan did. But tho best performance in Sul livan's record was his six-round en counter with "Battling" Nelson, in which tho Washington lad exchanged blow for blow and held his own to tho finish. Since the match between Brltt and Sullivnn was mado sovornl weeks ago both fighters havo been training faith fully, nnd roports from their respec. tlvo quarters today aro to tho effect thnt both are. in primo condition. Un der tho articles of agreement they are to wolgh in at six o'ctock this evening nt 133 pounds, "Tho Wanes of Sin." San Jose, July 21. This was tho renl euuso of Hucter's angor Friday night, although his wlfo did not know it. Sho states thnt sho has boon intlnmto with tho physician for six months past, having gone to San Francisco n number of timos to meet him. Sliver Bay Conference. Silver Bay, N. Y., July 21. Horribly Mangled Corpses (Continued from first page.) board tho Bennington, when it reached the wharf, was frightful. Tho deck tim bers, heavy steel and iron beams, smoke stacks, gun carriages, and scraps of engines nnd boilers woro heaped in ono indescribable mass. Two of tho guns vtcrc gone, nnd tho magazlno, which let go almost simultaneously with tho boil er, wns nothing more than n great gap ping hole. Tho platenu bucklod, and tho inner woodwork, in places, was torn to splinters. Much of tho upper works wns thrown into tho water. The ship is leaking badly, nnd it is feared that sho will sink. Tho cnuso of tho explosion is not definitely known. Engineer Nelson personally making an inspection of tho boilers, preliminary to leaving port, hnd found everything all right, and was about to givo orders to put up the steam, when tho explosion occurred. Nelson wns blown back Into tho store room, nnd injured, but not fatally. Tho cnptaln and n few of tho other officers hnd not yet joined tho ship, nnd thus escaped. EnBlgn Perry, officer of tho dny, was on the forwnrd deck, directly abovo tho boilers, and is perhnps fatally injured. Other officers are injured, but none, it is thought, fa tally. Tho cngino crew wcro nil at their plnccs wlicn tho explosion oc curred. Tho explosion was followed by nn fcutpouring of a sheet of flnmo nnd scalding wntcr and smoko. This cnught every man in the boiler and onglno rooms, blew up the decks and throw dozens of men into tho air and into tho bny. In tho pnnlc others jumped into tho bay, and woro picked up by bonts which soon nrrlvcd. To step upon tho gnng plnnk nnd boord tho ship it was ncccssnry to step over tho bodies of thrco dead boys. Thoso sailors who remained in condition to walk around, bohnved in nn horolc manner, nnd did not stop until every bndly injured man hnd been sent nshoro on tho launches. Tho scenes at tho morguo nnd hos pitals aro horflblo. Tho victims aro blackened by cinders nnd smearod with blood. Very few wcro badly torn, tho injuries in most cases being from scalding water. In many cases tho skin hung in ribbons. Somo of tho in jured wcro so blackened and scnldod thoy could not bo identified by frlonds. Among tho Identified dead sailors aro Chambers, Nowcomoo, Hughes nnd Bonscll. Oregon Bankers Organize. Portland, July 21. The writ of revlow in the case of tho City of Salem vs. Nichols wns dis missed by Judgo Galloway this after noon. This was tho caso in which Nichols wns arrested on tho chnrgo of vagrnnoy, ond finod $70 by tho city re corder. Through his nttornoys tho enso was carried to tho county oourt, whore it was deolded ngninit him. Ills attor ney then filed a writ of revlow in the oirouit oourt on the grounds that tho ordtnnneo uudor which ho hnd boon nrrostod and finod wns lost, nnd that, therefore, tho recorder's oourt hnd no jurisdiction over his onso. The judgo hold that, whilo thero was gravo doubt in his mind as to whothor the ordinance was now in exlstonoe, tho writ should bo dismissed, for, if not, tho fact that n number of other ordinances had boen lost would work a gront hardshfp on tho city. Tho tostimony in tho trial went to sliow that tho ordiuancos bad beon eopled into a book, without being certified to. It is not thought that tho onso will bo appealed further, but that Nichols will pay his fine. Boys Got a Lecture. Promptly at 2 o'clock this afternoon 12 boys appeared before Recorder Moores to get a froe lecture on how to conduct themselves in tho future. It is safe to say that they will neither bo anugbt stealing nor eat lug stolen mel ons in the near future Five of the boys that were in the gang were not compelled to appear, ns they were very young, and had only eaten some of the melons, and were not implicated in stealing them. n i Spoiled Her Beauty, Harriet Howard, of 209 W. 34th St., New York, at one time had her beauty spoiled with skin trouble.
