Ho had occasion to go to ono of tho ticket afllees on Clark street to get his trans portation. Ills curiosity wns aroused by reports of turbulent scenes in the streets, and having plenty of time to await tho departure of his train for tho enst tho senator took n stroll along Clark street townrd tho North side. There did not appear to bo any ex citement on tho streets, nnd tho dis tinguished visitor soon forgot nit about tho strike, Presontly ho saw two in ndcont looking wagons coming toward him, A moment later ho found him self in the midst of a howling mob of infuriated teamsters nnd strlko sym pathizers. Tho animus of tho crowd soemed to bo directed toward tho driv ers of tho wagons at first, but nn in stant later tho fighting became gen eral in tho street. Men were thrown down nnd tramped upon, clubs were used, DricK uats nnd other missiles flow thick nnd fast, and several pistol shots rang out. Senator Dolliver struggled manfully, nnd It wns only because of his giant stature and strong physique that ho was nblo to keep his feet. Ho know that if ho went down the results would bo seri ous.
