It is said that ono of theso under (ground chambers has boon explored for (donco of a termination of its wonderful suites of subterranean rooms. The fori inntion is lava and tho caves open into sldo chambers and smaller rooms in numerable. At places openings aro found reaching out to the surface at varying depths nnd the entire country is underlaid with a system of theso lava caves. ' Tho principal opening by which tho caves nro entered is at a placo on tho Dos Chutes river, whoro a round holo has been formed in tho surface of the ground, by a section of tho eartli'a crust about 30 feet in diameter sinking to n depth of 30 feet forming a circu lar holo 30 feet across and 30 feet deep, from which tho cavo opens and by which exploring partios enter. Mr. Mayborry will tako a compan ion with him and mnko a completo exploration of tho eaves this spring, if possible. He has been a rustler from the start, awl tho Journal takes great ploasure in pre senting this complimentary sketch: George O. Wil. Tho subject of this sketch is a dealer nf the Dushintr t.vno. His methods have always shown force behind the accomplished end. He did no waiting for growth, and his success appears to stamp approval on those methods. Mr. Will has been a great advortiser. Sowing Mnchino Tims has criticised his ads moro adversely than compli montarv. Perhaps he knew tbe peo ple he was talking to better than the critic knew them; possibly he went on tho theory that bad advertising Iwas better than none, and that the main point was to keep his busine" loforo tho public eye. At any rate his business has grown and continues to grow; advertising does not stop it. Mr. Will is "about 45 years old. He was born in the town of Bethel, in the stato of Missouri. Ho laid a good foundation for his business by a term of two years as salesman in an Ore- gan town. He then opened up with his brother in Albany, Oregon. Two years later ho moved to Salem Oregon, started the businoss which he has con tinued to the present time. His early trade was in Domestic. Now Home nnd Wheeler and Wilson machines most I v. He has in later davs varied his assortment, but as he has recently told our readers over his own signature, he pins his good faith to tho good and popular makes whoe reputation is ;i help to n dealer.
