county.
An appropriation aggregating $3,-
249.83, including a balance of $749.83
loft over from a former appropriation
was mado for this purpose
Tho work authorized by this act
was commenced during tho mouth of
March, 1904. Stato teams were usod
when not othorwiso employed, but woro
not sufficient to perform all tho labor
necessnry to bo dono with towns. Oth
er teams woro hirod with which to aid
in tho prosecution of tho work. All
tho convicts who could bo convenient
ly employod under ono supervisor wcro
furnished and UBod in this work. Only
trusties woro usod, and for this rea
son no guards woro hirod, thoroby econ
omizing as much as practicablo in tho
cash outlay necessary. Tho men woro
soloctod with caro, worked well and
faithfully, giving no troublo whntover.

grado previously built, has boon con
structed, and a good roadbod with am

boon mado, but as much of this grndo
was built during tho oxtromoly dry

not bo mado as solid and compact as it

tho grade. A good road plow, Bcrapcrs,
shovels and somo other implements for
prosecuting this work woro supplied by
Marion county, and grado stakes wero

dono in repairing tho grndo betwoou
tho deaf muto school and tho asylum
fnrm. Tho superintendent of tho re
form school, Mr. Loonoy, and citizens
living tributary to this road, assisted
in tho work by furnishing a f ow teams,
which woro of matorlal aid in hauling
rock for ubo upon portions or the road,
and which had, in somo instnncos, to
ho transported quite a distance
