ing a crash, as though tho roof had
fallen in, tho clerk ran out into tho
hallway, and saw him lying upon tho
landing of tho spiral stairway, between
tho first and second floors. Upon in
vestigation it wns learned that no
bones woro broken, and that, except
for a sovero shaking up, which ho will
probably feel for several woOks, ho
was uninjurod. Mr. Mattison says that
ho must hnvo rison in his sloop, and
started down tho stairway and lurched
over tho railing at a point nbqut half
way botweon tho socond nnd third
floors, nnd that his escapo from seri
ous injury is probably partially duo
to tho fact that ho struck a wiro which
was stretched across tho place, and
again struck a board upon which a
palm is standing, about midway in his
